A dohányzás és a cukorbetegség a pa ro don ti tis két fő kockázati tényezője, és ezek jelenleg szerepelnek a pa - ro don ti tis osztályozásában is. [66] Ezért e kockázati tényezők ellenőrzése kritikus jelentőségű lesz a gyógyu lás és a hosszú távú stabilitás szempontjából. A dohányzásról való leszoktatást célzó beavatkozások hangsúlyozása pa ro don ti tisben szenvedő betegeknél, akik fenntartó parodontális terápiában részesülnek, kiemelkedően fontos. A pa ro don ti tisben szenvedő páciensek számára hasznosnak bizonyult minden a cukorbetegség kontrollját célzó beavatkozás a parodontális státusz stabilitásának megőrzése szempontjából. Ez állhat a betegoktatásból, ideértve táplálkozási tanácsadást, és a betegek diabetológiai szakrendelésre történő beutalásából is.
