These statements are on FDI website: www.fdiworldental.org ad 4. Exchange of Information (to advance and promote the art, science and practice of dentistry) It is done by FDI through:-Annual World Dental Congress: This year in Mon­treal (Canada) next year in Shenzhen (China). It is an open forum where highly qualified speakers from all over the world share information with each dentist.- Continuing Education Programme are program­mes with less scope than the FDI Congress; this allows to go to the people who need it. Every 3 weeks, somewhere in the world a Continuing Edu­cation Programme is running- Publications: The various FDI publications cov­er all branches of the dental profession and FDI enhances communication to the public with press releases.- FDI Committees and FDI Statements: The Sci­ence and Dental Practice Committees produce Statements submitted to the General Assembly. Once adopted by General Assembly means that the Policy Statement has the agreement of more than 900,000 dentists! FDI’s Statements are extremely useful for the Patients, the Dental Profession and the Member Associations.- Developing Countries Programmes: These small programmes are conducted for a short time with immediate results.- The Sections: Public Health Section and Mili­tary Section The Public Health Section’s overall goal is to strengthen the Oral Public Health within the FDI. The Military Section allows military dentists to meet their colleagues from all over the world and discuss com­mon areas in the field of military dentistry. How the FDI acts as an organisation? 1. The Parliament of World Dentistry is held before the Annual World^Congress and during these days, all the committees and meetings with the delegates are planned. 2. The General Assembly is the supreme decisional body of FDI where all delegates of Member Associa­tions decide on the Mission and the Strategy. Gene­ral Assembly elects the officers of FDI. 3. The Council and the Committees have to do propo­sals to the General Assembly and implement their decisions. 4. Regional Organisations are independent bodies brin­ging together FDI Member Associations in order to share issues common to the region. Their function is:- to develop policies, reports and resolutions to the Council and the General Assembly.- to co-operate with the various agencies of the FDI in promoting the FDI’s objectives in the region.- to encourage co-operation amongst the associa­tions of the region in the fields of research, educa­tion, practice and public health. ERO: European Regional Organisation of FDI The ERO groups the dental associations of 36 European countries and whose constitution is in line with FDI. They share the common issues by bringing up their National Reports. The region has its own Working Groups on:- Quality management- Liberal dental practice in Europe- ERO Parity- ERO Enlargement- Prevention- Basic and continuing education-Women in Dentistry For each action and issue, FDI aims to an interactive relation with her Member Associations and a collabora­tion in the committees. FDI really hopes, with her structure and organisation, to accomplish her Mission and in that way promote the best oral health and general health for the Hungarian population in full synergy with the Hungarian member association and the Hungarian dental profession!
