Rosivall, L.: Effect of angiotensin II and noradrenalin infusion on the basal nitric oxid release in rat submandibular gland The possible interaction of angiotensin II (Ang II) or noradrena­lin (NA) and basal nitric oxide (NO) release has been studied in rat submandibular gland (SMG). Ang II (33 ng kg'1 min'1) was infused i.v. in anaesthetised rats with and without No-nitro- L-arginine-methyl-ester (L-NAME; 10 mg kg'1 i.v.) pretreatment. Control groups of rats with and without L-NAME pretreatment received 0,9% saline in i.v. infusions. Noradrenalina (NA; 1 mg ml'1) was also administered to a group of rats. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) was recorded continuously, SMG blood flows were determined by 8eRb uptake technique. Changes in glan­dular blood supply were expressed in relative vascular con­ductances (VC). Ang II equally reduced relative VC in normal rats and in rats pretreated with L-NAME (55,5+6,5% versus 50,0+6,5%; NS). However, relative VC obtained at NA infusion in L-NAME pre­treated rats was significantly lower as compared to that of nor­mal rats (49,4±5,2% versus 61,3+11,5%; p<0,05). Our results suggest that exogenious or circulating NA inter­acts with NO release in controlling glandular microvascular function in rats.
