fő gerinctípusokat és a közepesen sorvadt csoportban a három alcsoportot is (8. ábra). Az eredmények azt mutatták, hogy statisztikailag is megalapozott összefüggés van az alsó és a felső fogatlan gerincek sorvadása között. A vizsgált páciensek többségénél (46 esetben) az alsó és a felső fogatlan gerinc egyaránt erősen atrofizált (8. ábra, GU3; G03). A közepesen sorvadt alsó gerinc (8. ábra, GU2a, b, c) gyakran (41 esetben) erősen atrofizált felső gerinccel (G03) társul (8. ábra). Csupán 11 páciensnél volt az alsó (GUI) és a felső (GOI) fogatlan gerinc egyaránt megtartott, alig sorvadt (8. ábra). Megfigyelhető volt még az is, hogy a nőknél az alsó fogatlan gerinc gyakrabban mutat erős atrófiát.

Examining 230 edentulous patients, a significant degree of atrophy in the maxilla and mandible relatively often has been found. Atrophy could be detected more often in the mandible of female patients. For these forms of manifestation, among others, systemic causes: osteopo

rosis, diabetes and periodontal disease could be found. The results and their classification may help to draw the attention in the course of treatment to strong dissimilarities or similarities of the edentulous mouth. The degree of atrophy observed on both jaw-bones among other factors — is significant for the planning and prognosis when indicating total prosthetic treatment.
