Guide to the catalogue

Within the works of an author the collected works stand on the first place while other works are listed in a strict alphabetical order of their titles. Index of printing offices, printers and publishers by places The places of printing offices are listed in the name form used at the time of publishing, indicating the town's current name too, together with a country code (e.g. B res 1 au/W rod aw - PL). References are made from alternative place names on the print. Printers having operated in the same town follow each other in alphabetical order, the individual members of printer families are, however, listed in the sequence of their activity. If different years are mentioned at different places of the printing, we referred to the entry at each of them. Name index of printers and publishers Provides information on the towns in which the printers and publishers mentioned in the catalogue have operated. From the name forms references are made. Chronological index Only the years are listed, with incunabula too. A more precise date is given at the individual entries. Where the date of publishing could be set between two dates only, the index indicates the mean date with c (circa). If in the entry two years are given as the possible time of publication, both years are given in the index as well. Index by languages Printings in Latin - being in a majority - were not taken into account in the index. Possessors’ index The names of persons, institutions and towns are listed in a single alphabet (referring the names of institutions to towns whenever it was possible). Places of locations are listed with their current names, except for those having belonged to the historical territory of Hungary. These are given in a name form according to the gazetteer dated 1913, the forms in our copy and the current name forms are given in brackets, with a country code. Handwritten notes and manual decorations. Books bound into parchment sheets References are made to the owners’ notes if they were written in national languages other than that of the work, to the most significant illustrations, initials, hand-coloured engravings and copies bound into parchment sheets.
