mous library of János Török (1809-1874) in 1873 - and the historian, Aladár Ballagi (1853-1928). The purchase of old books continued even during World War II, till the early 1950s.

Cataloguing within the project had to be started with identifying these books, with reviewing the catalogues of mixed holdings and with the inspection of special collections on the spot. The short descriptions prepared during this process were changed into a register of locations, and on this basis the detailed description of copies followed by filling in the forms supplied by the National Széchényi Library. During this work historic bindings were determined by Ms. Marianne Rozsondai; her related essay can be read in the present volume. The next step in the work process was the editing of catalogue records as per the Guide to this volume.
