Sándor Katsányi: Kálmán Könyves Tóth (1900-1972)

Kálmán Könyves Tóth was an official ofthe city library from 1924 to 1948. he represented a civilian but strogly critical social-pi itical direction, was one of theleaders of the Miklós Bartha Society, and had contacts with a number of progressive authors, e.g. Attila József, Gyula Illyés. (The Miklós Bartha Society was a forerunner of the movement of populist writers that was one of the major socialcultural movements in Hugary between the two world wars.) Although the management of the metropolitan library has only partially adopted the notions of Könyves Tóth, his activities int he 30s represented a special new colour int he library’s life as well.
