Faragó Éva: Útikönyvek a XIX. századi Budapestről The accounts on the experiences during travel, the works describing the natural and social features of countries, landscapes, towns visited have been with us ever since travels started. From the late 18th century travel habits have modified all over Europe, as the number and social composition of travellers have changed. In addition to travel books, letters, diaries, accounts a new genre was bom in travel literature at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the guide book or companion. Based on guide books from the 19th century the changes can be followed up that have occurred in a century in the townscape, society, traffic and culture of Pest-Buda, that has risen to the rank of the capital and a metropolis. Kiinda Mária: Bejegyzések vizsgálata 1601 előtti nyomtatványainkban. Almost half of the 1040 books printed prior to 1601 contain marginal notes in handwriting. The essay describes examples of the three broad categories of these marginal notes. Most of them refer to the copies themselves: to the owner of the volume, to data of the donation or the purchase, the rarity of the book, its state, binding etc. The second group includes glosses, comments on the contents of the work, eventually a translation of certain parts, or data on the author. The third group has not got anything to do with the contents of the book, just provides blank paper for making notes related to recipes, housekeeping, agriculture, historical events or prayers. Horváthné-Jakubecz Ilona: A Központi Ellátó Szolgálat szerepe a hálózat szolgáltatási rendszerében 1991-1993. The essay provides a brief overview about the central professional services of the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, and about how they are connected to the system’s organization and services. It describes in more detail the Central Supply Service having been organized in 1987: its functions, services that have developed in the period 1988 to 1993, the way and extent of their use. It makes suggestions for some investigations promoting the efficiency and eventual development of the service. 118
