He did not have a Hungarian heritage, but he loved his Hungarian people and served them faithfully during his tenure as pastor of this predominantly Hungarian congregation. He loved our hymns and often sang them in the Hungarian language. He was also a leader in Hungarian circles and he and his congregation participated in the New Brunswick Hungarian Festival which was a yearly event in that city. Thus, we can say that he represented God and man in all local affairs. He and his faithful wife, Lucille, also took an active part in the operation of our Hungarian Baptist Convention. At one time he was even elected to be our President and Lucille was elected President of our Women ’s Convention. Dr. Austin was fair in all his dealings within our organization as a result of which he was regarded with love and respect. This was voiced by many members of his church and by other clergymen from surrounding churches and by leaders of other organizations. For the past few years, Dr. Austin has had failing health and he struggled to maintain the demands of his work as a pastor. He remained faithful however until his physical condition regressed to a point where he just could not function affectively as a pastor. On January 27, 1996 he attended his final service as pastor of his church. For his faithfulness and in appreciation for thirty years of service, a farewell dinner was held after morning worship services at which time everyone had an opportupress their grateful thanks for his spiritual guidance over so long a period of time. Our Convention was represented by our President, The Rev. Alexander Kulcsár and a number of others who knew Dr. Austin closely. We, as Hungarian Baptist are grateful to God for giving us a worker such as Dr. Austin. He gave unstintingly of his time and talents to help in the work of our Convention. Dr. Austin was faithful to the Lord and to all responsibilities entrusted to him. We wish him God Speed, peace and contentment in all that he will do in the future. Then, when he will lay down the yoke of human frailties, may he hear that call that comes to all true believers, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee a ruler over many things, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. ” God Speed, dr. Henry, we love you, and so does God. EJK Trans World Radio / International Gospel Broadcasting Dear Beloved Friends: This month the number of workers in the Hungarian radio ministry decreases by two: Joe and Marge Steiner are going to retire from the active service in which they spent their lives. It was Joe who started the Hungarian language ministry ofTWR with two weekly programs in 1961. His wife, Marge, a Norwegian-American was a great help to Joe in the ministry even though she has not learned Hungarian on such a level to be able to communicate in it. As a radio listener, I had known Joe by his voice for many years before wefirst met in the US during our initial deputation time. We enjoyed working together with them in Monte Carlo for the six years we lived there. It was to honor the lifelong ministry of the Steiners that we organized a series of radio rallies I wrote about in our last letter... Those rallies were the last opportunity for Joe Steiner, before his retirement, to meet and talk with listeners he ministered to over the years. His wife, Marge and Annamarie were also able to come for the last meeting held in Budapest. Join us as we praise our Heavenly Father for using the Steiners in the lives of many Hungarians through their radio ministry. And let ’s pray that He would call some new workers to join this radio ministry now inside the country. (Kalman Dobos) Trans World Radio Broadcasting the Gospel worldwide Excerpt from the letter of Joe Steiner An important change ahead for us As you know, the work in Hungary and other East European lands is being turned over to the people living there. In line with this, TWR’s Hungarian branch called MERA will become responsible for all of TWR’s Hungarian programs towards the end of February. And we will “retire”. In the next few weeks, besides finishing producing programs until the latter part of February, we will need to pack and ship our belongings, empty the apartment here, sort tapes and books in the office, and so on. We recently received word from the Bradenton Missionary Village in Florida that we have been accepted there as residents. Perhaps you noticed that we put the word “retire” above in quotes. It’s not yet clear where we will put our efforts in the future, but we are asking God how we will be able to serve him in our new location, for this is a very needy world. We would greatly appreciate your prayers for God’s clear leading in this matter! We can’t adequately express how much we have appreciated those churches and individuals who have stood behind us in prayer and in financial support, many of you for several decades! Many, many thanks! In His Service, THE STEINERS PEOPLE COUNT 1996 Season of Home Missions
