1996. szeptember 9. oldal 2>etfoesda Baptist Retirement Home Each day brings new life to Bethesda. We have successfully completed our roofing project over the east and west wings and over the living room / dining room area. All the gravel and old tar paper was removed. White shingles were installed after repairs were made to the areas with rotten wood, including the facia. Turbines were replaced with ridges and gables, soffets and facias were improved. We have experience torrential rains and severe winds since completion and I am grateful to report that there have been no problems. The Shaker house has been painted on the outside. We chose a pure white with beige trim. It looks very clean and neat. In addition, we have begun to paint the Mala-Birthday Party, 1996. Carmen, Martha Wallace, Nuella Nalford, Ruth Desilva, Loretta EfTinger, and Pauline Binion bar House and we have completed painting the sewage pump cover. We have added two cement picnic tables under the big old camphor tree between the west wing and the Melbourne House. Residents and staff are enjoying the shade provided by this magnificent tree while they sit at the tables. There are always many repair, maintenance and improvement undertakings to be accomplish so that we can keep Bethesda’s facilities and grounds safe, looking good and encourage activity. Our Mother’s Day celebration in May was a wonderful success. The EL-DOES of the Sebastion Elks Lodge provided a cake and gift. Seven members of the group joined us. We provided cheese and crackers, fruit platters, cream puffs and punch. Linda Betch, our dietary aide set the buffet table and with service. I was the mistress of ceremonies, opening the festivities with a spiritual reading, leading us into our game “Things a Mother Might Say” and giving special recognition to the oldest Mother attending—100 years young, the mother with the most children and to the eleven mothers attending who were over 90 years of age. Beverly Bums, our activity director was the hostess, making sure everyone was comfortable—giving out name tags, finding seats for the 36 guests that joined our residents. Connie Weber, our personal care attendant, played the piano fora a sing-a-long which ended with, “Let There Be Peace On Earth”—the first few words are, “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me...” It appeared that all 94 people in the room raised their voices in song. Also in May we held our 2nd annual softball game and picnic. The weather was hot, but the sun was often blocked by clouds. The old oak trees provided wonderful shade. This year the red team , captained by my administrative assistant, Sonia Carter won the game. For Father’s Day in June we went for a Father’s Day luncheon-Men Only. While the men ate well, including delectable dessert, they chatted with each other, Beverly Bums, Rodney Teems and me. In fact, I’ve never heard the men talk so much. July the 4th was a la2y day. The residents and I played a word game in the morning, trying to name all 50 states. After writing 48, we were stumped. We stopped to sing some patriotic music and enjoy donuts and coffee. While we were enjoying our refreshments, we decided that by the time lunch rolled around we would be able to name the other two states. Sure enough, it was discovered that we had forgotten Maryland and New York. After lunch we named the 13 original colonies, talked about the holiday, pledged allegiance to the fag and sang “You’re a Grand Old Flag". I guess it wasn’t such a lazy day after all! On July the 5th, our resident, Grace Kaminski’s son Bill, entertained with his band. I wish you could have been here to see the residents’ happiness. The music was so joyful! Lunch was an indoor picnic with grilled chicken cooked behind the kitchen on our barbecue grills. Enclosed you will find the donations for February, March, April, May, June, July and August. Tudod-e hány érmet szereztek a magyar sportolók Atlantában? 7 aranyat, 4 ezüstöt és 10 bronzot. Ezzel az országok versenyében a 12. helyezést érték el. Az Evangéliumi Hírnök az Olimpián? Egy nem régen, postai úton ránk talált magyar származású testvémő jóvoltából az Evangéliumi Hírnök majdnem bejutott az olimpiára érkezett sportolók és sport-rajongók közé is. A napokban érkezett leveléből idézek: Dear Bro. Herjeczki, please forgive me for not writing you sooner. Yes, I received the Gospel Messenger... I even took some of them to the "cold water station ” hoping that some Hungarian people might stop there on their way to the Olympia in Atlanta. Several (Southern) Baptist Churches from this area manned welcoming stations just offinterstate 20 at Oxford (AL). We handed out cold water, Olympic New Testaments, Interactive Pocket Guides with plan of salvation, US flags, devotional reading materials and hospitality bags. But only Americans stopped by the day I was there. (Suzi Howie) Köszönöm Howie testvérnő, hogy megpróbálta ami nekünk sajnos sokszor eszünkbe sem jut: evangélizálni az Evangéliumi Hírnökkel. Bárcsak eljuthatna a Jó Hír lapunk hasábjain még sokfelé. □
