I slept well at the Cross Country Inn and enjoyed all the delicious food prepared for the convention. 1 truly appreciated everyone’s hospitality. Most especially 1 want to thank the three women who patiently translated for me, on Friday and Saturday; Julia Gero, Anna Jakab and a lovely women from Ohio who sang with the chorus on Saturday evening and whose name I can not remem - ber. My traveling after the convention was exciting. Uniting with family mem - bers after a long separation is so wonderful. Upon my return to Melbourne, I learned that I was needed in Dallas, Texas to care for my sister. I traveled to Dallas and was with my sister until our mother arrived. I was grateful to finally return home and come back to my residents. Bethesda suffered slight damage when the hurricane came through the Palm Bay area. We were prepared, plywood on the large plate glass windows, tape on other windows, a supply of bottled drinking water and seven days of food. Bethesda’s supervisors, Carmen, Beverly, Jane and Jane ’s husband spent the night with the residents. They were joined by the regularly scheduled staff and two members of a resident’s family who evacuated from their beach side home. It was a team effort to let the residents know everything would be alright. Rev. Zeffer, his family and friends are staying in the Palm Bay House at Bethesda. We have had some rain, but judging from Rev. Zeffees sunburn, it appears that he has taken advantage of all the moments filled with rays of bright sunshine. Its a joy to know that God’s blessings are with His people.. The following donations were made to the Bethesda Baptist Retirement Home in July 1995: BETHESDA BAPTIST CHURCH .... $200.00 IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALEX BANYAI HELEN BANYAI...........................$100.00 August: BETHESDA BAPTIST CHURCH .... $200.00 Melodee A. Dew Administrator Family Reunion For the first time in several years, the John & Katherine Monus family gathered in Calgary, Alberta, for a few days the last week in May. The purpose of the reunion was to encourage fellowship and to bring each other up-to-date on our activities. We selected as our theme: Building Up One Another. We developed this topic under two sub-topics: Appreciation and Affirmation, Wendell Evans, husband of Lillian (Monus) Evans, took one sub-topic and Vic Monus took the other. Our families are scattered over several states and provinces. We were delighted that everyone made the effort to Family reunion -- Our parents are gone, but our family maintains regular contact with one another. come and be together for this brief visit. The last time we were together as a fam - ily was in 1990 in Montana, with some members unable to attend. Ifweareon a 5-year cycle, it would be very special if we could meet again in 2000. We hope each one will still be with us and will be able to come at that time. We all acknowledge that our times are indeed in God’s hands. Some of our family came from On - tario, Ohio, Montana, Illinois, Saskatch - ewan, and Alberta. We were not many in number, less than 20 altogether. We all look back on this event as a time of refreshment, relaxation and renewal. Small in numbers, we are delighted to be part of that greater family some of whom are in heaven and some still on earth! Our John and Katherine went home to be with the Lord in 1985 and 1989 respectively. Four of our siblings are also in Glory — waiting for that final reunion after which we will not be going separate ways but be at home forever. Vic <6 Anita Monus MEN WHO SERVE GOD AS “PROMISE KEEPERS” “The devil’s design is to silence believers. Your children can talk about anything in public school but Jesus Christ, ” said Rev. E.V. Hill. “We’ve got to tell them they are God’s chosen creation, that they are saved by the gift of God that is Jesus Christ. We must stand with Christ in these Christ-less days and be sold out, tied up and wrapped up in Jesus, ” he said to thousands of men assembled as “Promise Keepers’’ in Anaheim, California. These thousands, mostly fathers and husbands, are members of “Promise Keepers, ” a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to uniting men to become godly influences in their world and their homes. Promise Keepers was formed in 1990 by Bill McCartney. A football coach at the University of Colorado, he “saw the need to call men into the ongoing process of godliness, understanding that through God’s power, we have the resources to make and keep Spirit-led, bib - lically-basedpromises (IIPeter 1:3-4). ” “We believe vital relationships among men are the foundation for helping each other become promise keepers, " notes the organization’s Statement of Purpose. “Here men can submit themselves to pray for their brothers, and genuinely understand each man 's strengths and weaknesses. ’’ Promise Keepers believes these relationships are best developed in small group settings. However, the movement has mushroomed from a small nucleus into an avalanche of praise, prayer and prose when thousands assemble in meetings throughout the nation. In 1994, more than 52,000 attended the record-breaking event in Anaheim, California. In Denver, Colorado, only 47, 000 heard Mick Jagger’s Rolling Stones rock concert but more than 52,000 men assembled in the Boulder stadium to renew their commitment to God as Promise Keepers. The Seven Promises of a Promise Keeper 1. A Promise Keeper is committed to honoring Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and obedience to His Word, in the power of the Holy Spirit. 2. A Promise Keeper is committed to pursuing vital relationships with a few other men, understanding that he needs brothers to help him keep his promises. 1995. október
