Mezőkövesdi régi ház (A zsúptető jó hőszigetelő.)

We had the privilege of attending a Hungarian Baptist worship service in the city of Cluj (Kolozsvár). This city is a very lovely university city where most of the street language is Hungarian. There we found a very active and faithful group of worshipers in their recently built church building. The Rev. Ferenc Dénes was the pastor there, but has since retired and after much ado was replaced by a very fine young preacher. This church has a membership of almost 400 people who spend almost the entire Sunday in study, prayer, worship, choir rehearsal, band rehearsal and individual participation. It was a real joy for us to be so heartily welcomed in such an active church. We found much the same situation in the Hungarian Baptist Church in Oradea (Nagyvárad). This is the largest Hungarian Baptist Church in the world. They have a very active membership of almost 1200 people. It was a real privilege for me to be called upon to speak in both of these churches. I did not preach because of my somewhat limited knowledge of the Hungarian language. I did however, talk briefly to them about

religious life in America among our Hungarian people. I also conveyed to them the best wishes of my local church, our Home and our Convention. One must be very careful when speaking in public in Romania, because there is always someone, even in church, who must report all things to the authorities. If a report is not made, it could become a serious problem for the individuals involved. My own second cousin, who is a native Romanian and attending the University, would not accept a breakfast invitation from me because it could have jeopardized his continuing studies. How thankful we should be for living in a country where we do not have to fear such consequences.

JÖJJETEK AZ ASZTALHOZ

(Ezsaiás 55. rész)

Isten az, aki a zsoltáros szavai szerint asztalt terít az Őt követőknek. Neki nem lehetetlen azt megtenni, hogy a sivatag közepén tudjon vizet előteremteni. Neki nem lehetetlen a semmiből egy egész világot alkotni, és a bűn sivatagjából új, megváltott életet eleveníteni. A megváltásra azoknak is szükségük van, akik látszat szerint “jól élnek”, mert van minden földi javuk. Éppen azoknak szól az isteni felhívás: “Miért adtok pénzt azért, ami nem kenyér, és gyűjtött kincseteket azért, ami meg nem elégíthet?” (55:2) Az olyan csalóka javak helyett Isten igazi vizet és táplálékot ajánj nekünk is. Keressük hát azt az Ő igéjében.
