September at Bethesda megtérésben van: vissza Istenhez! — így Szolzsenyicin. * “ Támadó ateizmussal” a hívők ellen. “Ha támadó ateistákat meggyőződéses materialistákat akarunk nevelni, akiknek nincsenek vallási előítéletei, akkor a munkát már a gyermekeknél el kell kezdeni. ” Ezt írta a Szovjetszkaja Kultúra (1983. ápr. 28.) hasábjain Sch. Bodanov, a szovjet kommunista párt propaganda osztályának főnöke. Ez a nevelési módszer már ismert. Most azért keltett feltűnést, mert Sztálin a második világháború alatt 1941-ben beszüntette a kommunista pedagógia hangoztatását. A Harcos Ateisták Szövetsége már 1922-ben hadat üzent a hivő állampolgároknak. A háborúban felekezeti különbség nélkül minden szovjet polgárra szükség volt, ezért Sztálin kiadta a parancsot, szüntessék meg a Szövetséget. A megfigyelők egyöntetű véleménye az, mióta Andropov hatalomra került, a szovjet ateista támadás a keresztény felekezetek ellen megerősödött. Bogdanov eredményes támadást sürget. Javasolta, hogy minden városban szervezzenek “ateista köröket” vagy “ateista tanácsokat”. A TASZSZ diktálja a híradások ütemét Mióta Andropov lett a Kreml ura, megváltozott a szovjet hírügynökség módszere is. A TASZSZ megelőzi az elítéltek barátait és hozzátartozóit. Mielőtt telefonálnának a nyugati sajtóirodáknak vagy a Moszkvába akkreditált újságírókat értesítenék az ítélet eredményéről, a szovjet hírügynökség a maga módján közzéteszi a hírt. Ez a közlés nem felel meg a teljes valóságnak. Legtöbb alkalommal a híreket csonkán közük: elhallgatják a büntetés időtartamát és körülményeit. így történt ez az elmúlt májusban Wilnában is. Az ottani bíróság elítélte Alfonsas Swarinkas litván papot: hétévi börtönt és ötévi lágerbüntetést kapott. A TASZSZ jelentése még az ítélet kihirdetésének napján eljutott a világsajtóhoz, de a lágerbüntetés közlését elhagyta. Csaknem egyidőben ítélték el Sigitas Tamkeviciust is, de itt már csak anynyit közöltek az esetről, hogy eljárás indult ellene. (MET) September was a very short month for us at Bethesda. This was primarily due to the fact that my wife and I had been on vacation and we were therefore away from the Home. Time really flies by so quickly when one is enjoying himself, therefore our time passed extremely fast during this month. Ethel and I had the privilege of visiting once again in Hungary and in Romania. While there, we visited five of our sister Hungarian churches in a period of three Sundays. While visiting there, we were asked to speak in these churches and we conveyed to them the greetings from our Home, our Church and our Convention. They in turn, conveyed their regards to all of their brethren here in the United States. It was a real joy for us to meet so many old and new friends and to know that in spite of certain problematic situations, they were still strong in their faith and trust in the Lord. In our absence, your Home was tended by our faithful staff and Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Fekete and Dr. Plyler. We are grateful to God for giving us these reliable people who concern themselves with the welfare of our residents. May God bless them all abundantly. During the month of September, we were finally successful in the capping of our deep well. This well was drilled in 1961 as part of an oil exploration project and had been spewing 1.2 million gallons of sulfur water into Turkey Creek each day. We have been in contention with the environmentalists and the city and state for many years in regard to capping this well. Now it is an accomplished fact and hopefully we have now satisfied everyone except the manatees that come up our creek to covert in the warmer waters that the well provided for them. We will now be able to use the water for irrigation and for whatever other purposes we may have a need for. It is now once again time to start preparing to host our winter visitors. We already have reservations set for the season, but we do have room for others. If anyone is desirous of spending the cold winter months in Florida, please contact us and well do all we can to accommodate you. Our staff is already busy in preparing our facility for the months ahead. We look forward to your visit and trust that you will be made happy with the services that we will provide.
