1981. április 15. 7. oldal MARCH AT BETHESDA Another month of service is behind us at Bethesda. It has been a good month, filled with joys in fellowship with visits from dear friends from near and far. Spring is definitely around the corner as made known to us by the sweet smell of orange blossoms and the beauty of our other flowering trees. The sweet smell of citrus blossoms, Jasmine and other flowering shrubs pervade the air and gives one the feeling of being in a veritable Garden of Eden. This is just one more manifestation of God’s love for those of us who are fortunate enough to be living in beautiful Florida. Our visitors this month have been many and we welcomed them all with thanks for their love and concern for us. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Washitza (Bethlehem, Pa.) came to visit with us as they have been doing for the past many years. Mr. and Mrs. Christiansen (sister-in-law to Dr. Henry Austin, President of our Hungarian Baptist Union) enjoyed picking oranges for the first time from our trees. Mrs. Frank Schaffer, wife of our most recently deceased President, spent three weeks with us enjoying the warmth of our hospitality and our Florida weather. It was good to be able to host such a charming and delightful lady. We reminisced of days past and of her husband’s love and concern for our Home and Convention. The old time Hungarian hymn “Más fogja élvezni kezed munkáját” sure does preach a sermon to all of us. My mother, Theresa Kish (Bridgeport) spent almost a month with us along with Margaret Bodalay (Wadsworth). These ladies along with Mrs. Muncsan (Detroit) spent many delightful hours in fellowship and in making stuffed cabbage and cookies for the residents of the Home. What a joy it was to see them working so diligently to prepare tasty foods for our loved ones. May God bless them and all others who help make life at Bethesda just a bit more accepdble for our residents. Friderika Drescher also spent a number of weeks with us recuperating from the rigors of a cold winter in Cleveland. Mr. and Mrs. McLean, (she is the youngest daughter of the Rev. John Fazekas) also visited with us. I was not here unfortunately to greet them, but I’m sure that they enjoyed their stay with us and were pleased with what they saw. We also received telephone message from Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lengyel (California), Mr. and Mrs. Jim Revy (St. Petersburgh) and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Balogh (Rahway, NJ). All of these folks are old time friends of our Home and it is a joy to know that they still love us and remember us in various ways. Bethesda is still a Mecca for many of our old time friends from our beloved Hungarian Baptist Union. As long as we have people such as these, there will continue to be a “Union” which will bind us together for the ongoing work for our Lord and Savior. A number of our regular winter visitors have or will be bidding goodbye shortly for another year. It was a joy to host these aged visitors from many parts of our country and from Canada. We will miss them but wish them God speed until we meet again. At the present time we are operating at 100% of capacity. We have forty eight rooms in our Home and we have 50 residents. In addition, we have a waiting list of ten people who are anxious to take up residency with us. Thus you can see that the demand for our services is still running high. God has given us a beautiful Home with excellent employees to provide needed services for our beloved residents. It is a privelege for us to serve God in this area of His kingdom. We recently added another employee to our staff who will assume the position of Director of Activities. Jean Robinson has a degree in social services and is a very fine Christian young lady. She is in charge of creating and maintaining a program of activity for our people. She will relieve us of the responsibilities of this area of our operation. Please continue to pray for us as we endeavor to make Bethesda a beautiful home for our aging citizens. Come and see us and God be with you all. Ernest J.
