“LOVE ONE ANOTHER”

The month of February is a significant one for our Hungarian Baptist Union. Our m^jor Committees will meet to evaluate the work accomplished during the first half of our convention year, and to re-examine our goals and intensify our efforts to reach them. The Missions and Literary Committee will meet February 14-15-16. The Executive Committee will meet February 17. The Finance Committee and Board of Trustees of the Bethesda Baptist Home will meet February 18 and 20. To save time and traveling expenses the Committee will meet in Palm Bay, Florida. We are most grateful to the Bethesda Baptist Church, Rev. Ladislau Biro, Pastor; and to the Bethesda Baptist Retirement Home, Mr. Ernest Kish, Administrator, for accepting the responsibility of serving as gracious hosts for these meeting.

If any of our readers wish to communicate their concerns to any one of these Committees, prior to the meetings, they should contact the chairmen or the president, whose names and addresses are listed in this, and every issue of the Gospel Messenger.

Please note that the meeting of the Committees will commence on Valentine's Day. That day is a symbol of hearts filled with love. Many kinds of feelings and actions can be mistaken for or masqueraded as love. Our concern here is the kind of love that motivated God to

give His Son to save all who will believe in Him. Let us make love the motivating power in every area of our lives, in our place of work, in our church, in our home and in our personal associations. Jesus said much about love. If there is any one thing He tried to impress upon His disciples it was this: “Love One Another.” We often hear people say: “I love everybody.” So that we may not hide under such a false cover, Jesus specified the kind of love He expected from His followers. “Love one another as I have loved you” He said (John 13:34). We know that Jesus loved His first disciples very much—all of them. He loves His present day disciples—all of us— just as much today. His love was strong enough to motivate Him to give His life for us. Is our love strong enough to motivate us to give anything to, or give up anything for, one another? It is very easy to buy a valentine card or even a gift and give it to somebody. It is much more difficult to give our own hearts, filled with love, to one another. But this is possible. If Christ alone fills our hearts, because He is love, only love can issue from there. I want to say to everyone of our readers: “I love You.” May God bless you and yours according to your need.

Erdélyi vendég

Kedves vendéget üdvözölhettünk december hó folyamán Dénes Ferenc kolozsvári magyar baptista lelkipásztor személyében. Dénes testvér a New Brunswickban lakó fia és a New Yorkban élő lelki testvérei, Tóth Györgyék hívására érkezett Amerikába. Amerikai tartózkodása alatt meglátogatta a New York-i, Palm Bay-i gyülekezeteket, a Bethesda Otthont és a chicagói román gyülekezetei. Utazása közben Murfreesboroba is ellátogatott, ahol az

Dénes testvér, mint a romániai baptisták volt alelnöke, volt szemináriumi tanár, az egész romániai baptista közösséget képviseli. Örömmel hallottuk beszámolóját az erdélyi magyar baptista lelkimunka állásáról. Elmondta, hogy az erdélyi magyar baptisták — az alámerített tagok — száma 13.000. A kolozsvári magyar baptista gyülekezet 250 rendes tagot tart nyilván.

Az erdélyi magyar baptisták 1976- ban kiadták “A Hit Hangjai” című 698 ének-szöveget tartalmazó könyvet. Az “Indrumatorul Crestin’’ című román nyelvű baptista lapban van egy 4 oldalas magyar rész. (A legutóbbi számban 8 oldal magyar.)

Dénes testvér a legszívesebben és leglelkesebben a kolozsvári magyar baptista imaház építéséről beszél. Az építés megindult s a templom alagsora már kész van, amint a mellékelt kép mutatja. Az épület hossza 25 méter, szélessége 12 méter lesz. A teremben lesz karzat, az egész épület alatti helyiségek gyülekezeti célokat szolgálnak. A templom külseje a terv szerint a városi hatóságok kívánságára modern stílusú és vallásos célt kifejező lesz. A lelkesedéssel előadott magyarázatba a gond hangulata vegyül: az épület sokba kerül, hogyan tudják tető alá hozni és berendezni?

Ezt a lelkesedést és gondot Dénes testvér itthagyta nekünk emlékül. Megírhatjuk: kedves emlék marad ez az itteni magyar baptista testvéreknek, különösen az erdélyi származásúaknak.
