Az első: Mit Jelent a Kereszt? című 47 oldalas nagyobb füzet, az Evangéliumi Iratmisszió kiadásában. A füzet három bibliai értekezést tartalmaz, három szerzőtől: Frank Colquhoun: Mit jelent a kereszt? Sir Norman Anderson: A feltámadás bizonyítékai. Michael Griffits: A keresztyén üdvbizonyosság. A füzet offset nyomással készült, apró gépírásos eredeti lapokról. Szép kiállítású. A második: Csendes Percek, elmélkedések János evangéliuma nyomán, Dr. Victor Jánostól. Kiadó a Református Sajtóosztály, Budapest. A budapesti Egyetemi Nyomda nyomása. A kis alakú, keménykötéses könyv 179 rövid elmélkedést tartalmaz. A könyv oldalszáma 184. Dr. Victor kommentárszerű elmélkedést végez János Evangéliuma alapján. E tekintetben újszerű munka, ámbár a könyv régebbi megjelenésű. A könyvek küldője árat nem közölt. Kaphatók a Magyar Baptista Iratmisszió vezetőjénél: Mrs. Joseph Szerencsy 54 Plum Street New Brunswick, N. J. 08901 A harmadik, Budapesten megjelent verseskönyv. A címe: A Szolgálat Utján. Kiadta a Magyarországi Szabadegyházak Tanácsa 1975-ben. A 211 oldalas, kis formájú, papírfedeles könyv 31 evangéliumi testvér verseit tartalmazza. A szerzők baptisták, methodisták, testvérgyülekezeti tagok és adventisták. Nem minden költemény költői remekmű, de mindegyikben felfedezhető a hit és bizalom szelleme s ekként lelkesítő. A hívőknek pedig ez a lényeg. A könyv ára 36.— forint. We have better school buildings than ever before. We’ve got more teachers with Masters degrees and PhD degrees and all kinds of petty-grees. We spend more money per pupil than I can recollect we’ve ever done before. And, it appears to me we oughta have smarter kids than ever before. But, alas and amiss, such ain’t the case. We’re just spending more money for less goods! Besides, more and more teachers and pupils don’t even go to school. If the teachers ain’t out on strike, the pupils are staying home because of busing. A friend of mine said it might not be a bad idea to just close schools down for a couple years and save the money. That may be a little drastic but it does make you think. For instance, Mr. Publisher, my wife wanted me to go back to school and get another degree. She said, “The learning will do you good,” I said, “Shucks, I already know more than I’m using now. ” It appears that folks are getting knowledge but they’re not putting it to use after they get it. Ole Dan’el Webster defines education as “drawing out.” It looks like we’re getting a heap more “putting in” than we are “drawing out.” If a fella could only draw out of the bank less money than he put in, folks would soon stop patronizing the banks. The Lord says that them who hear but don’t do are like a man who builds his house upon the sand. I for one, Mr. Publisher, ain’t interested in seeing the school shut down but I am interested in seeing the kind of education that makes doers as well as listeners. I could tolerate the kids learning a little less if they only put to work that little less. I reckon some folks are gonna wonder what right a country preacher has to comment on public education, but the Good Lord is as interested in what happens in the week-day schools as He is about the going-on in the Sunday Schools.
