6. oldal EVANGÉLIUMI HÍENÖK 1975. január 15. Baptist Churches is in those churches who had an influx of Hungarians from the motherland. It is our hope and prayer that work with other Hungarians in their community will continue and remain to be an effective ministry among the Hungarians in their community. Concern has often been voiced about the lack of a vibrant Hungarian ministry where at one time large congregations existed, I have thought long and hard on this problem. I too feel rather sad to see our Hungarian missions become less effective in some areas. On the other hand, I am heartened to see Hungarian missions still living and thriving in other areas. We welcome this and pray for its continuance and growth. Should we then say that our Hungarian Churches have failed in those areas where they no longer exist? I would say emphatically no! Our second and third generations of American Hungarian Baptists are admirably accounting for themselves in English speaking churches. I know of many men and women with a Hungarian Baptist background who are a viable force in the building of God’s kingdom within their own community. Just to name a few, second and third generation members of the Rev. Louis Stumpf family are today college professors, medical doctors and ministers. Mr. Joseph Botka is the Chief Probation Officer for the city of San Francisco. Second and third generation members of the Joseph Ban family are preachers, administrators, teachers and bakers. Second generation members of the Rev. George Balia family are excellent sacred musicians, preachers and members of the nursing profession. Mr. Richard Steg is a nuclear physicist now teaching at McGill University. The list of manufacturers, engineers, businessmen and women, as well as professionals and executives in almost every walk of life is long and amazing. All of these are Christian lay people serving God in all sections of our country. All of these folks came from Hungarian God feeds the sparrow but He never throws the food into the nest. Baptist parents of humble beginnings, but with a tremendous faith in God. Can we then say that we as Hungarians have failed? Even though our Hungarian churches have ceased to exist, their work continues in the overall ministry of the Church of God. We should therefore not be sad over what has happened. We should be proud of it. Churches are constituted by people who live and die, only to spring up elsewhere as another "Az utolsó napokan ártalmas idők lesznek ...” figyelmeztet bennünket Tim. II. 3:1—3. verseiben a Biblia. Az újság, a rádió a T.V. naponként közöl rémhíreket, de amíg azok nem mirólunk, vagy rokonainkról szólnak, azokat elolvassuk s aztán elfeledjük. Ha azonban szeretteinket érintik, akkor megdöbbenünk és remegünk. Ilyen esetben volt részünk az elmúlt napokban s ezt szeretném ismertetni lapunk olvasóival. Rév. Bállá Emil tv. jelenleg a Community angol Baptista Gyülekezet pásztora, Moáb, Utah államban. Egy temetésrendező felhívta, hogy egy másik angol gyülekezetben volna-e szíves kisegíteni egy temetésen. Az öcsém "igen”-nel válaszolt s így hétfőn reggel, október 7-én elment a temetésrendező irodájába, hogy a részleteket megbeszéljék. Egy William Roland Roberts nevű rabló már ott volt s hárman bementek egy koporsó raktárszobába, hogy a koporsót kiválasszák. Ekkor a rabló letérdeltette Emil öcsémet a temetésrendezővel együtt s azt mondta nekik: “Én egy gyilkos vagyok. Eddig kilenc embert megöltem s köztük öt r.lc. papot és te leszel az első protestáns lelkész, akit megölök, ha nem fogadsz szót mindenekben, amit mondok nektek. Három revolver van nálam s kettő a táskámban. Nekem kell $1300, hogy a számláimat kifizethessem” Ezután mind a hárman elmentek az Emil öcsém lakásába s aztán a bankba kivenni a követelt összeget. Persze a temetési intézkedés, stb. mind hazugság volt, mert a cél csak rablás és “kidnappolás” volt. A ha-force in the building of God’s kingdom. Let us, together, as American Hungarians continue to spread- Christ’s Gospel in whatever language is most comfortable to us and in whatever area we are in. With God there is neither Hungarian nor American nor Greek. We are all His people and should serve Him in whatever language and in whatever way we can. I am proud of my heritage and thank God for it. Ernest Kish lottas kocsival bejárták a környéket, keresve egy kibérelhető automobilt, de a rabló nem talált neki megfelelőt. így valami 120 mérföld út után a rabló vett nekik egy “cheseburgert” az Emil öcsém pénzével. Majd egy motelbe vitte őket s "álnév" alatt szobát bérelt nekik. Aztán a szájukba zsebkendőt gyömöszölt és széles tapétával a szájukat leragasztotta s kezeiket ruhaszárító kötéllel hátrakötözte, figyelmeztetve őket, hogy ha kiáltani mernek, lelövi őket. Emil öcsémnek az egyik körme meg volt törve s azzal elkezdte dörzsölni a kötelet. Hét és félórai reszelés után sikerült a balkezét kiszabadítani s aztán feloldozta a temetésrendező kötelét is. A rabló eltűnt s így telefonáltak a rendőrségre s az FBI hivatalába is. (A rabló az FBI hivatalának a tíz "most wanted men” listáján volt.) Feleségeiket is tudatták, akik nem bírták elképzelni, hogy mi is történt férjeikkel. Emil öcsém azt írta, hogy még soha nem imádkozott oly buzgón és komolyan, mint azon a két napon és hogy a hit és az ima volt az, ami Isten közelében tartotta őket s hogy egyedül Isten jósága és kegyelme volt az, ami őket megtartotta és megszabadította. Mi, mint rokonok és ismerősök adjunk hálát az Úrnak csodálatos szabadításáért és imádkozzunk mindazokért, akik részt vettek ezen tragikus eseményekben. Záradékul még csak annyit írhatunk, hogy ezt a rablógyilkos emberrablót október 12-én elfogták Portlandban (Oregon), s most ott várja az ítéletét. Balia B. György Megrendítő esemény
