1972. november 15. EVANGÉLIUMI HÍRNÖK 5. oldal Misszió mezőkről. HÁLAADÓ ÜNNEP TORONTÓBAN (Kanada) Kedves és áldásos ünnepi alkalma volt gyülekezetünknek október 8-án. Ezen a vasárnapon emlékezett meg Kanada népe arról, hogy az első telepeseket Isten vezette, megáldotta. Velük együtt mi is hálával járultunk Isten színe elé azért, mert egy éven keresztül ismét kegyelmesen hordozott bennünket az Űr, megáldotta életünket és kezünk munkáját gyümölcsözővé tette. A szépen feldíszített imaház és a különféle terményekkel roskadásig megrakott asztal méginkább arra késztetett mindenkit, hogy hálásak legyünk, mert ajándékaiban kifogyhatatlan a mi Istenünk. A reggeli imaóra alkalmával így buzdított bennünket az ige: "Emlékezzél meg az egész útról, amelyen hordozott téged az Úr.” (5 Móz. 8:2.) Majd a délelőtti igeszolgálatban arról hallottunk, hogy milyen nagy veszedelem és baj érte Ákánt és családját, mert az Úrnak szentelt dolgokat nem tudták odatenni Isten oltárára. (Józs. 7.) Az esti ünnepi megemlékezésre pedig egészen megtelt imaházunk és a hallgatók között több ismeretlen és ritkán látható arcot is szemlélhettünk nagy örömünkre. Ez is azt bizonyítja, hogy a gyülekezet tagjai a hívogatás szolgálatát is milyen fontosnak tartják. A tíz bélpoklosról szóló tanítás és a háládatosság szükségessége vezette be ünnepünket. Utána a különféle szolgálatok, költemények, énekek, szólók tették nagyon változatossá és örömtelivé hálaadó napunkat. Az énekkar a nyári szünet elmúltával, nagyon szépen készült fel, hogy éneklésükben is kifejeződjék: ők is hálásak akarnak lenni Istennek. A gyülekezet új lelkipásztora szépen és áldásosán készítette elő és vezette le a számára első ünnepi alkalmat itt a torontói gyülekezetben. Mindnyájan szívünkben azzal az elhatározással voltunk, nem akarjuk, hogy életünkből hiányozzék a hála, nem szeretnénk soha sem hasonlítani a háládatlan kilenc meggyógyult emberhez, hanem mindenkor hálaadással akarunk Isten előtt élni és járni. Azzal a kéréssel fejeztük be hálaadó napunkat: “Uram, tartsd meg mindörökké ezt az érzést a te néped szívében”. And Joe did it III. parts) It’s incredible the way God works! The kaleidoscopic background to the story of the Floating Clinic in Bolivia’s Chapare region is just another reminder to me of God’s greatness. Consider what God has done. On the human side the story begins with a Hungarian youth who wanted to serve Christ as a missionary. He trained for the ministry at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Budapest and later became Pastor of the largest Baptist Qhurch in his country. He was a popular preacher and among the many young people who used to come to hear him was Joe Sallos. The Hungarian Revolution in 1956 changed a lot of things, and John and his Doctor wife, Margaret Cserepka fled to Austria. Joe Sallos also escaped from the country. Eventually both came to Canada. Not until 1968 did Joe hear of John again. He was speaking of his experience as a missionary to Bolivia in a Vancouver Church and Joe went to see and hear him. That night drastically changed Joe’s life. As he heard the story of human need and was made aware of the conditions under which John and Margaret were labouring, he was so moved that he volunteered to go to the jungle area of Bolivia where they worked, to provide them with electrical power and equipment. Joe is a research electronics engineer at the University of British Columbia and had the time and expertise to undertake such a task. The tremendous concern felt by John and Margaret for the physical and spiritual welfare of the thousands of people living along the waterways of the Amazon River, became Joe’s burden too. A floating medical clinic was the answer; so he came home with a vision as well as a concern. Few people realize that during the time Joe Sallos was involved in this project, including the time spent in Bolivia, he had visited the hospital nine times for surgery. To meet Joe you would never suspect his physical difficulties. He and his family are happy people. They believe God gave them something to do and they have a great sense of Christian fulfillment. THE MEDICAL TEAM While all these events were taking place, God was at work in other lives. In 1967 a young pre-medical student from New Brunswick travelled with a youth team to Bolivia and became concerned by the needs he saw in lives there. A young Nursing student from Oshawa, Ontario grew up with an interest in missionary service; and God brought the two of them together. Their marriage united the mutual concerns of each for a ministry of service in the name of Christ to people in other lands. When they were appointed to serve as a medical team on the floating clinic, their respective churches also undertook a share of the concern. Without prior knowledge of what the other church was doing, each voted identical sums of money that together underwrote the support of this couple. They now regard themselves as twin churches in the project. There are many other parts of the story that cannot be told. Many churches and groups, both young people and adults, have taken a share of the action. Civic organizations have been moved to participate as has the Canadian International Development Agency (a government aid program for developing countries). But in and through it all we see the hand of the Master Designer who works in mysterious and wonderful ways his perfect will to perform. THE MYSTERIES OF GOD “MORE LIGTH ON THE HOSPITAL BOAT”
