Esztergom kétszer hét oroszlán alakja volt látható, melyek palmettás keretet és az életfa ősi jelképét ábrázolják, utalva a magyarság keleti gyökereire és a korai bizánci keresztény kultúrával való szoros kapcsolatra. Később a trecento korában feltehetően Ambrogio Lorenzetti köréhez tartozó mester díszítette a belső tereket. A hiteles helyreállítást elősegítette, hogy a régi boltozat záróköve is megkerült. A török korban összeomlott kápolnát és a palota XII. századi ép boltozató középkori lakószobáját 1934-1938 között tárták fel és restaurálták. A liakócz kápolna a legtisztább érett itáliai reneszánsz stílust képviseli. h century chamber in Hungary that has a complete vault were reconstructed between 1934 and 1938. The Bakócz Chapel represents the pur est Italian mature renaissance architecture in Hungary. Tamás Erdődi Bakócz, who nursed high hopes of gaining the Papal Löwen zu sehen- und stellen Palmettenrahmen sowie das Ursymhol des Lebensbaumes dar, womit auf die östlichen Wurzeln des Ungarntums und die engen Beziehungen zurfrühbyzantinischen christliehen Kultur verwiesen wird. Spiiter, in der trecentinischen Zeit, wurde der Innenraum von einem wahrscheinlich der Schule von Ambrogio Lorenzetti angehörenden Meister ausgestaltet. Die Auffindung des Schlußsteines des alten Gewölbes ermöglichte eine verbürgte Rekonstruktion. Die wahrend der Türkenkriege zerstörte Kapelle und ein mittelalterlicher Wohnraum der Palastanlage, dessen Gewölbe aus dem 12. jh. unversehrt erhalten geblieben ist, wurden bei den Ausgrabungsarbeilen 1934 freigelegt. Die Bakócz Kapelle repräsentiert den italienischen Renaissancestil in seiner reinsten, vollendetesten Form.
