Tibor FAKÁSZ COLONEL MEGSÉRTS ACTIVITY IN 1956 IN ESZTERGOM The author - researcher of Komárom county*s history in 1956 - in this essay, examines the activity of colonel János Mecséri commander of the Hungárián People's Army motorized division, during the revolution in Esztergom. On the hasis of Priváté confessions of Mecséri, as well as offícial reports of his formation regarding the revolution, and other sources, you can follow day by day, how became the class-conscious, social democrat worker, colonel Mecséri, from the organisation of the safety arrangements of the communistic partos power, during the maintenance of pubUc order against revolutionary actions, to take the side of the revolution and fight against the soviet army. The author shows that inner struggle of Mecséri and his colleague-officers, who because of the bloody volley- íiring from 26" of October come into conflict with themselves, and the intention of repair their fault. 262
