Bélai Iván [et al.]: Köztéri alkotások

VI. Utószó

VI. POSTSCRIPT Károly Szabó This edition is part of the »Esztergom 2000 Encyclopedia«, and will be followed by ten other editions in the near future. Our purpose with these editions was'n to present our city in 2000, by taking occasional visits to both past and future. The idea of the »Encyclopedia« first occured for two things: on the one hand, many towns and villages record themselves by important daces and events, handing over a great deal of information to the new generation, and closing a certain era at the same rime. On the other hand, when dealing with the problems of Esztergom, we had to recognise that even after ten years in rhe new period, the city still has no idea how to step out of the hole in which it has fallen during history. The change of regime gave hopes to Esztergom too, but it seems that the city has not been able to carry out a renewal. Compared to other towns, this fact is very much ro be noticed. For the city, the year 2000 was very important. Yet, the former seat of the foundation of the country, the former capital, the former crowning city and seat of the Hungarian Catholic Church, the city is not able to contribute to the celebration of the Hungarian Milleneum. We hope that the planned editions, together with the Encyclopedia of which parts they form, will give readers a just image of the city, its values and problems to be solved by the following generation, so that it would not only be to struggle bur live a life in Esztergom. The titles of the issues planned: 1. Open air Works of Art; 2. Museums, Archives And The Castle; 3. Houses, Streets, Clerical and Civil Buildings; 4. Art; 5. Nature and Tourism; fa. Churches and their Urban and Public Institutions; 7. Industry, Commerce, Services, Travelling, Financial Institucions, Agriculture and Protection of the Environment; 8. Education; 9. Health Care; 10. Civil services; 11. Porcrait-galery. With regard to our foreign visitors, we have published an English and a German translation as well. The first volume covers the public-place works of art 172 in Esztergom. We hope that it will be useful during Your sightseeing tours.
