Street. He was a doctor of tragic life, one of the greatest Hungarian doctors. He was also known as the saviour of mothers. 148. A memorial was dedicated to the victims of World War II, beside the Church in St George's Field (Szentgyörgymezö). There is a 156x95cm white marble memorial plate on an artificial stone fundament. On this place we can read the list of the victims. On the front side of the fundament there is another 15x95cm white marble plate. It carries an inscription: This memorial was erected by the citizens of Szentgyörgymezö, in 1947. 149. A 70x100cm white marble memorial plate was dedicated co Pál Oltósy, freeman of Szentgyörgymezö. The plate is on the wall of the house in 6 Square of the Heroes of 1848 (48-as Tér). It was put up by the Self Government os the city on 15th March 1998. Pál Oltósy was captain of the war of independence in 1848-49. he was also the founder of the Hungarian sour cherry cultivation, and the founder of the production of walking stick and cigarette holders. 150. The Parish of Szentgyörgymezö put up a memorial plate of marble on the wall of rhe mortuary in honour of Károly Somogyi (1811-1888). He dedica­ted his life to che Church and to his Country, and he was buried according to his will in Esztergom. He left his library to Szeged. This collection was rhe basis of the present Somogyi Library ar Szeged, named after the generous giver. 151. The marble plate above the entrance of the St. Rita Home of the Handicapped in 20 Dessewffy Street remembers the good deeds of János Simor. The inscription says: This Home was founded and erected by the Primate Card. János Simor, in 1886. 152. On the wall of the Town Hall a memorial plate indicates that the building formerly was the house of the Kurucz general Bottyán »The Blind« (-(-1709). This one storey mansion house was built ar rhe end of the 17th century. In 1726 a storey was added to the building to house the Town Hall. The main arcadic fronrage was built between 1755 and 1773. The Bottyán Street wing was erected between 1778-1779 to house a school. The 45x32 cm memorial plate was made of white marble. Ic is on the right of the main entrance. It was put up on the 250th anniversary of Boctyán's death. 153. A 30x40cm white marble memorial place was put up by the City Committee and the MTESZ in honour of Árpád Lampich, air-plain designer 156 and sports pilot, in 1973. Ir is on the wall of the house in 24 Széchenyi Square.
