1934. Husvét. ERŐS VÁR 15-ik oldal. Jézus minden emberi szivén kopogtat. Talán a megpróbáltatás vagy a szerencse idején, sokszor egy szerény pap hivó szava utján de nem tör be erőszakkal, mint ahogyan a legtöbb emjber szeretné, ha igy tenne Jézus bizonyságot önmagáról. Nem Testvérem, Jézus csak kér és hiv bennünket s tőlünk függ, hogy elfogadjuk-e. A mi számunkra nem az a kérdés ad nehézséget, hogy Jézus feltámadott-e vagy nem. A legtöbb ember nagyon is érzi, hogy élő és mindenütt megjelenő Krisztus él a mii világunkban is. A baj ott van, hogy félünk találkozni ezzel a Krisztussal, mert mi is sokszor a nagypénteki “feszítsd meg”-et kiáltó, csak anyagi világot akaró tömeghez tartozunk. Tudjuk, hogy ha Jézust szivünkbe fogadjuk, akkor sok mindent meg kellene változtatnunk. Még találkozni se akar vele az ember, mert le kellene vonnia a következményeit, amit Jézus mond, hogy t. i. a bűnt csak büntetés követheti s az örök életet csak az Ó vérében való megtisztulás és keresztjének a felvétele által remiélheti az ember. Bizony nagyon világos ez a jézusi tanítás; szembe mond mindent, azért nem kedves a bűnt szerető embernek. De mi bölcs szó vagy okoskodás volna olyan hatalmas bizonyíték, mint Krisztus híveinek milliónyi bizonyságtevése, hogy az igazi Krisztus arc nem a kegyetlen bírói, hanem a megkegyelmező, szerető Üdvözítőé. Ezért mi lenne szebb, mint az élő Krisztus mikor Istennek legkedvesebb teremtménye, az imádó embersereg zeng diadal éneket Husvét reggelen, annak a Teremtőnek, aki bűnbe elbukott emberhez Szent Fiát küldte, hogy kiszabadítsa és magához emelje. Lehet ezzel szemben százféle okoskodás, nekem az élő Krisztusban vetett hit adja a reménységet és Jób bizonyság tevését ajkamra, hogy “Tudom, hogy az én Megváltóm él és utoljára az én porom felett megáll (Jób 19.25.)” S mi kell több? Ismerem ezt az irgalmas Megváltót, aki az Ítéletnél kegyelemmel tekint majd rám s igy az Ő életének dicsőségéből nekem is juttat, amiért is a halál nekem nem jelent már félelmiét, hanem nyereséget a Krisztusban. Ezért hiszem a húsvéti feltámadott Krisztust, aki “azért halt meg és támadt fel, hogy úgy a holtaknak, mint az élőknek ura legyen.” (Kor. I. 13. 14.) Amen. 1934 március 22, New York, N. Y. Divisional Secretary New York City. ELJEN EROS VAR A Latin proverb says that books have their history. The same is true of periodicals, be they ever so small. When we published our first parish paper almonst 40 years ago, it died when only 10 months old, of consumption, as we stated, due to lack of nourishment. The proper support had been lacking, and not willing to go into debt, we had to quit. The same has happened to the “Erős Vár”. It had a propitious beginning and was greeted with a great deal of satisfaction, but due to the depression and other causes it died of consumption, of lack of nourishment and support, in spite of the heroic efforts of Editor Leffler to keep it alive. In this it shared the fate of many publications, some of them very large, which have gone to their death during the depression. Now a new beginning is to be made on a different plan, which promises success. A larger editorial staff has been formed, which has the confidence of the Church, and which is determined to make the paper a success. We rejoice in this new development and our only regret is that we cannot give the financial aid, which this effort deserves. We realize the urgent necessity of such a paper and its great importance in the effort of binding together our Hungarian Lutheran forces of all places into one large Lutheran community. It is to be a bond of union, which should be particularly appreciated by those many scattered Hungarian Lutherans, who do not have the advantage of frequent communication with their countrymen, which is afforded to those living in the populous centres. We are sure that no better management, no better editorial staff could be found. But that is not enough to make the paper a success. They need the active and vigorous support of every Hungarian Luheran The best general and the finest officers cannot win a battle, if they are not supported by a loyal army. We appeal to this army of loyal Hugarian Lutherans to give the management the best possible support. We appeal particularly to the Pastors to exert every effort that in their congregations the Erős Vár be not only read by the people, but also paid for. It should be a matter of racial pride, if
