Margaret Szanthay was born November 6, 1912 in Békéscsaba, Hungary. She toured as a professional dancer throughout Hungary and Europe from 1930 to 1940 until she met Barna Török in Békéscsaba, Hungary and married him on April 10, 1940. They later settled in Budapest, Hungary, where Margaret choreographed and instructed ballroom dance until she gave birth to Zsolt on May 4, 1947. From 1945 -1947, in post war, communist Hungary, she coached and instructed ballroom dance as part of the government mandated artistic education program. She also choreographed many seasonal ballroom dance events in Budapest, culminating in the 1955 Great Danube Ball, which opened with a French minuet featuring 400 dancers. encompass the South American emigration history. They were one of the original founding family members of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Hollywood and spent much of their time involved with church activities, the Hungarian Boy Scouts and other Hungarian community activities. Margaret worked at the Automobile Club of Southern California for nine years. Although officially retired in 1977, she continued to work there part-time until 1983. In 1974, Barna suffered his first stroke and Margaret attentively cared for him until his death on January 14, 1975. Her retirement years since 1982 were spent at church and family events, traveling to visit Zsolt and daughter-in-law Daina is San Jose, California and enjoying her favorite hobbies - needlepoint and daytame soap operas. She died unexpectedly on April 24, 2001 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A of metastatic liver cancer. Her final resting place will determined at a later date. (Zsolt and Daina) A Mother's Love In February of 1957, after the Hungarian revolution in 1956, Barna, Margaret and Zsolt left Budapest and emigrated to Santiago, Chile. Barna's elder son Szabolcs Török sponsored their stay of three years, and the family left Santiago for the United States of America in May of 19661. Their US immigration was sponsored by Barna's other son Ladislaus Török. On May 16th, 1961 the family landed in Baltimore, Maryland via a ship owned by Szabolcs's firm Compania Minerale Sante Fe. They later flew to Los Angeles, California. The years from 1961 to 1967 were spent raising young Zsolt, until his acceptance to UCLA. The family obtained US citizenship in May of 1966 and proudly joined the Republican Party. They officially added "de" to the Török suname to Like a cradle rocking, rocking, Silent, peaceful, to and fro; Like a mother's sweet looks dropping On the little face below, Hangs the green earth, swinging, turning, Jarless, noiseless, safe and slow; Falls the light of God's face bending Down and watching us below.
