- 5 lo Archiv and Manuscript References to the Eötvös Loránd University Budapest The legal predecessor of the Budapest Eötvös Loránd University was founded by Péter Pázmány Archiepiscopus at Esztergom in Nagyszombat (now Tmava in Chechslovakia) Is, May IÓ35. The institution, as University of the Hungarian Jesuit Order began its activity with two faculties. The Philosophic one was at work since l635, the Theologie one since 1638. The University was widened with a juristic one in l66y, and later at the time of the enlightened absolutism with a medical faculty (lyóp). After dissolution of the Jesuit Order the University was transferred to the centre of the country, to Buda in I777, later to Pest in I784. Here without any break she is active up to now. After the year lp45 two faculties, theology and medical had become independent. Today the University is doing its work with three faculties (Faculty of Law and Political Science, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science). Our university assumed the name of the wellknown phisician Loránd Eötvös in lg50. So the oldest hungarian university can celebrate the 350-th anniversary of her exsistance in 1985. This volume was written to enlighten resurches belonging to the history of the university and generally history of culture.
