Abstract: (Philological and puristical articles in the Hungarian newspapers between 1945 and 1905) This is a summary of the permanent columns dealing with the problem of correct usage in the daily papers. The study concentrates on the theme of orthography, and differentiates three main periods in the history of these articles. Just after the war they dealt with the words coming from other languages, and that is what we call purism. The second and the third periods, when the number of the orthographical articles grew, are the years after 1954 and 1904 marked with the 10th and 11th editions of The Rules of the Hungarian Orthoraphy. It is interesting to note that nowadays many English words are used in the Hungarian language ( desig n, joggin g, team , week-end) .
