(East and South Africa, tropical Asia and Oceania. The vicariant F. cameruniae (Dus) C. Muell. occurs in West Africa. Its easternmost occurrence is in the Ruwenzori Mts. The two species differ only by their sporophytes, which are extremely rare. On the other hand, even these sporophyte characters seem to be uncertain.
