Abstract On the basis of the ''COu incorporation the study presents-the photosynthetic intensity of one of the beech forest communnities (AconicoT.Fagetum) and of the oak forest communities (Quercetum petraeae-cerris) from Bükk mountain. It points out the differences between the photosynthetic productivity of the two communities. It reveals the variables between trees, shrubs and herbs as well as relative species in the fixation of CO-?. It is conspicuous how low the value of CO2 fixation by Quercus petraea (0,143 dm _ Jh _ l) is. The most productive species are; Ligustrum vulgare (2,737 mg CO2 dm~ 2h~') and Euonymus verrucosus (2,539 mg CO? dm2h~ j). The average productivity of the species of the beech forest community is greater by 4,57%-as compared to that of oak forest species. The species in the latter community seem to have a larger diversification in the capacity of the CO2 fixation. The least productivity appears characteristic of the trees and one of the greatest shrubs. 524
