What is the position and the role of specialised archives towards the archival service in one country? To what extent is the existence of specialised archives the result of tradition or perhaps different historical elements or circumstances, and how much their existance reflects real needs of specific categories of creators or of specific categories of users? Has the position of specialized archives in different countries been legally regulated and if so, in what way? What is the actual situation in Croatia? Are specialized archives subject to, and do they aim to meet the same modern standards imposed by the development of the archival profession, on the level of preservation of archival material as well as on the production of finding aids? What is the archival education of the staff working in specialised archives, is there any professional co-operation with other members of the archival community and are they considered part of this community? 50
