ARHIVSKI VJESNIK 10. (ZAGREB, 1967.)

After a brief survey of certain laminators, there follows the description of a laminator (impregnator) produced in Yugoslavia. It is compared to the other machines of the same kind; the resulting advantages and deficiencies are reviewed. Due comment is given to the selection of reliable termoplastic films and protective materials. The most important stage of the process preceding lamination — determining the acid content of documents and their subsequent deacidification — is explained in a somewhat detailed description. The final chapter is devoted to the declared and real performances of a laminator. We are implicitly warned not to confuse the two terms. When a manufacturer specifies the number of documents his machine can laminate e. g. in 8 hours, he neglects the fact that practically in no workshop the documents can be continuously fed into the machine; the personnel will have to spend time with phases prior and posterior to the lamination per se. Only if the conditions are extremely favourable, one can expect to laminate, during a certain period of time, a number of documents somewhat smaller than the capacity stated by the manufacturer. 166
