Gergely Bakos OSB Medieval Investiture on Mount Olives Nicholas of Cusa’s Sermon at the Abbey of Monte Oliveto In July, 1463 Nicholas of Cusa preached a sermon at Monte Oliveto Maggiore, the central abbey of the Olivetan Order. The document containing this text also recorded the rite of the monastic investiture itself. This highly unusual text has been made available here in Hungarian translation: Nicholas’s very last sermon that reveals the cardinal’s view of Benedictine monasticism. At the same time the reader of this text can gain a glimpse of a particular monastic investiture from the Middle Ages.
