centuries. Perhaps the most significant result of the research is that the most complete text of the decisions of the Synod of 1654 held in Vágfarkasd – of high importance in the life of the local reformed church – is preserved on the pages of an edition of the Institutes

kept in the collection of Pannonhalma. The examined volumes also preserve the glosses of two 17th

-century rectors of the College in Pápa, which is considered the intellectual centre of the reformed church in Transdanubia. In addition, three volumes by Calvin – once possessed by Péter Már (1769–1823), a pastor in Győr, one of the most outstanding preachers of the reformed church of the time – are also kept in Pannonhalma.

These facts indicate that many valuable witnesses of the Hungarian Protestant/

Reformed Church – mainly in Transdanubia – “lurk” in the libraries of the Roman Catholic Church.
