A Salzburgi missale Pannonhalmán őrzött példánya 255 peeling, scaly coats of paint, the 23% aqueous solution of the methylcellulose adhesive called Thylose MH 300. The outcome of the experiments of making older conducted on celluloseethers demonstrates that methylcelluloses – in the long run – are very stable, hardly turn yellow, and their capacity of fixing and resolubility decreases but a few percent. The adhesive was applied with a brush on the affected places, whose watercontent slightly softened the dry bonding agents, which was enough to level the coat of paint smoothly back onto the paper. Removing the leatherspine of the 19th century from the spine of the book proved to be a serious challenge because it partly covered the original covering leather of gothic decoration beneath it. Laponite RD, the synthetic coating silicate – not yet used in practice of Hungarian paper repairing – was chosen in order to soften the hardening adhesive. One of the important characteristics of coating silicates is that their crystalstructure can preserve water for a long time, thus they are excellently suitable for forbearing and lengthy moistening. A protective layer of lenscleaning tissue was inserted between the leather to be softened and the moistening agent, which prevented the surface of the work of art from the adherence of the particles of gelstatus during the treatment. Laponite RD was also used to dissolve the old repairs occurring in many places in the volume. The brown stains of unknown origin were locally treated with 0.5% aqueous solution of citric acid then the sheets in question were deacidified with calciumhydroxide (89 pH). Paperdeficiency was completed by casting. The covering leather was treated with surfaceactive preservative containing mild afterstuffing agents.
