A naplófüzetből kigépelt lényeges részek, 1942–1944 335 Emí lio Jordan, OSB, Diary 1942–1944 Father Emílio Jordan, OSB 44 was a monk of Pannonhalma, sent by the disposition of the Archabbot, Chrysostomus Kelemen, to São Paulo, Brasil,45 in 1939 for three years. Because of the Second World War – Brasil declared War during 1942 – he remained over there and could not return to Hungary as foreseen, because his adoptive and his native land became enemies. He kept a diary in Hungarian from 1942 until 1998. Its text was preserved both in manuscript and in a typed shorter version in the Archives of the Abbey of S. Geraldo, São Paulo.46 We publish here the text of the first three years in the shorter, typed version. Father Emílio’s interest was focused not only on the daily life of the Benedictine and Hungarian community in São Paulo, but also on the accidents of the War, including some facts e. g. the use of the Hungarian language was forbidden during the War, even in the pastoral work, in Brazil. The text was edited by Adam Somorjai, OSB, monk of Pannonhalma. 44 Sándor Emil Jordán (1912–1999), Benedictine from 1931, ordained catholic Priest in 1937, lived and worked from 1939 until March 22nd 1948 and from September 4th 1949, as he was on the service of his Archabbot in the United States, until his death in São Paulo. He was the first Superior, from 1953 the Prior of the Conventual Priory of S. Geraldo until 1968, after that year the Founder and Director of the “Istituto Social” over there.45 See: Adam Somorjai , OSB, Archabbot Chrysostom Kelemen in the West, American Benedictine Review 66 (2015/2), 164–170.46 In the Archives of the Abbey of S. Geraldo in São Paulo one founds, Diarios originais – Original Diaries in manuscript and Diarios revisados – the revised shorter typed text.
