Újkori egyetemi oklevelek Pannonhalmán 251 Vilmos Zsidi – Zsolt Osváth: University diplomas of modern times in Pannonhalma The success of the exhibition entitled Diplomas and registration books of three centuries at Corvinus University, Budapest inspired us to collect the diplomas issued by institutions of higher education in Hungary between 1648 and 1948. In addition to university archives, the activity of research and collection was extended to other public collections of Hungary, too (e.g., denominational archives, documentation departments in museums, manuscript archives in libraries). The professional rela-tionships established with Archives of Comenius University in Pozsony (Univerzita Komenského v Bratislave) and the archives of the Catholic Church in Transylvania provided opportunities to extend our research work beyond the borders. The results of our research have been outlined in many national and international professional programmes. In September 2016, in the database entitled Diplomas of qualification and doctoral degrees issued by institutions of higher education in Hungary (1642) 1775–1948 the basic data of 675 diplomas of qualification and doctoral degrees, leaving certificates (absolutorium) , and school reports (testimonium scholasticum) issued by ap-proximately 80 contemporary institutions of higher education and higher vocational training were registered. Although the educational documents of the last two types cannot be regarded as “diplomas”, these records were also included in the database, because no other types of educational records have been discovered from the in-stitutions of higher education in question (e.g., royal academies) yet, or they were produced in a period (the 18th century and the beginning of the 19 th century), from which only few educational records have been preserved. Our long-term aim is to connect this database with other databases created by universities in Hungary (e.g., the database of the intelligentsia in Hungary, the data-base of the curricula in institutions of higher education in Hungary). Out of the diplomas collected so far, the digitalisation of 105 diplomas of qualifi-cation and doctoral degrees, other aforementioned diplomas, and other aforemen -tioned records proving qualifications kept in twelve special archives of institutions of higher education in Hungary has been made possible by the support obtained in competition announced by the Special Council of Archives, National Cultural Fund of Hungary in 2005. The present paper makes public the results of the research conducted in the Ar-chives and Manuscript Archives of the Library of the Archabbey in Pannonhalma. We found, recorded and described diplomas and other documents of educational quali-fication issued by seventy-seven secular institutions of higher education in Hungary and kept in the two collections.
