Calvin Synod Herald, 2017 (118. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

2017-01-01 / 1-2. szám

CALVIN SYNOD HERALDI 11 simple as a smile and kind word to your neighbor. It may be a contribution to a great cause. Who knows? Only you and God know. I remember when I was invited to a retirement home to provide the Bible Study for the week. When the hour had come only a half dozen people had gathered. The chairwoman apologized to me on the small attendance. She said, “If this had been bingo day the room would be filled.” Some of us gather for worship while others lie in bed, read the paper or hurry off to some entertainment. We ought not say we are better or more righteous than those others. But the difference in behavior reminds us that each day presents choices and challenges. Joshua, on the verge of the Promised Land, shouted to his people, “Choose you this day whom you will serve!” (Joshua 24:15) In our time, Robert Frost wrote: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. Amen. David B. Bowman Saratoga, CA Bethlen Naptar/Almanac A Note from the Editor: As all of you know, the Bethlen Almanac/Naptar is published annually by the Bethlen Communities 95 years in Ligonier, PA. It is meant to keep us abreast of what is happening in our Nursing Home, Retirement Village, the CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Center) and the Hungarian Reformed Churches, mainly in the US and Canada, recording our history for the future generations. Hereby, we would like to ask for your reports/ articles by no later than January 15, 2017. If you have photos, please send them along with your articles. This makes the Almanac more interesting. Remember to send pictures with captions. All items to be prepared in Microsoft Word and photos in jpg format at least 300 or higher resolution. Although the majority of the articles are centered on the life of the Hungarian Reformed Churches of our various congregations, we do have a section for articles of interest, in which anyone can send articles that would be of interest to our general audience. The article can be sent in English or Hungarian. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. Your Sister in Christ Ilona T.
