14 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Bethlen Communities Heritage Center Museum and Archives Letter of Appeal to the Calvin Synod Congregation Dear Calvin Synod Congregations, A new Heritage Center was created at Bethlen Communities, Ligonier, PA which will include a Museum and Archives portion. The Museum and Archives “celebrates the American experience and cultural heritage of the people of Hungarian Reformed Church extraction, and the history of its members” (Holdings and Acquisition Policy, 2.G.). The mission of the Museum and Archives to the American Hungarian Reformed Church has two primary purposes: 1. To identify, collect and preserve records of enduring value to the Church; and 2. To be a useful information service to its leadership, its members, and to the general public. (Holdings and Acquisition Policy, I.B.). The Board of Directors of Bethlen Communities has been working very diligently to secure the funding necessary to transform the building into a first-class facility. We are fortunate in having a good building to use. The staff is also working on funding for the renovation of the areas to be used by the Heritage Center. Donations are coming in, but the total needed is in the area of $150,000. We would like to ask for your church’s financial assistance in this matter. When sending your donation, please write in the Memo section of your check: Bethlen Communities Heritage Center. Donations may be sent to the Calvin Synod Treasurer: Ms. Lisa S. Toth-Maskarinec 1836 Timothy Drive • West Mifflin, PA 15122 We also encourage all of you to visit the Heritage Center and see the progress and vision we have for the future. This will be a resource for anyone wanting to reacquaint themselves with their cultural or faith heritage. This will be a “Heritage Center" for our Hungarian Reformed churches, reflecting our history and our culture. Calvin Synod Homeland and Overseas Mission Jesus says: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you ” (Luke 6:38 N1V). In this Bible verse Jesus teaches us specifically how to live a life of stewardship. Stewardship means managing the resources wisely that God has given you and me. According to Christ’s teaching, being good stewards of God needs to be our lifestyle. Three different times, in Luke chapter 6, Jesus said that if we don’t make this lifestyle of giving, sharing, and loving there is nothing that separates us from the sinners and the world (v. 32- 34). Let us follow our Savior Jesus Christ who modeled this lifestyle for us. We will reap many benefits and blessings by living a life of stewardship. May God bless us in our Christian calling of being good stewards. Your kind and generous donation to the causes and missions listed below can help many. USA 1.
