Bertalan, Dean; Rev. Albert W. Kovács at Johnstown-Windber Pastor Election /-----------------------------------------------------------------------\ BREAD + WINE S.M. Jesus invites his saints To meet around his board; Here pardon’d rebels sit, and hold Communion with their Lord. For food he gives his flesh; He bids us drink his blood; Amazing favor! matchless grace Of our descending God. The sacred elements Remain mere wine and bread; But signify and seal the love Of Christ our cov ’nant head. This holy bread and wine Maintains our fainting breath, By union with our living Lord, And int 'rest in his death. Our heav ’nly Father calls Christ and his members one; We the young children of his love, And he the firstborn Son. We are but sev ’ral parts Of the same broken bread; One body hath its sev ’ral limbs, But Jesus is the head. Let all our pow ’rs be joined His glorious name to raise; Pleasure and love fill ev ’ry mind, And ev ’ry voice be praise. From a Reformed hymnal of 1834 The above is a hymn from an old German Reformed Hymnal of 1834 used in the USA. The word German was dropped years later and the ReformedAmerican-Hungarians merged with the Reformed Church in the United States in 1921. This hymn is suitable for Easter, but also appropriate for Pentecost or a church anniversary and other special celebrations. Submitted by Rev. Albert W. Kovács / \
