CONGREGATIONAL and CALVIN SYNOD NEWS In the Fall of2008 at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Manassas, VA the Women’s Bible Study Group began a study using John Stott’s guide to the Beatitudes for about a month. Afterwards, the Group began to study Christian Living in the Home, by Jay Adams. The Group meets at 5:45 PM each Sabbath evening and provides a valuable time of fellowship that is open to all women in and around the church. Adult Classes have been held recently on: Acts - Chapter 20:1-16. Also - Genesis - After the Flood. And also - The Westminster Confession - Chapter 25 - The Church. Rev József Vásárhelyi, Dean of Eastern Classis and Auxiliary Bishop attended the UCC Executive Council Meeting in Cleveland, OH and on NOV. 17- 18 the Diaspora Conference in Budapest. NOVEMBER 1: The First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead (Munhall, PA) hosted the Fall meeting of Cen­tral Classis. The focus of the Fall Meeting was the theme: “Evangelism and Worship”. Central Classis will continue work on this theme in the months ahead and will be prepared to report at the 2009 Annual Synod meeting in May. NOVEMBER 26: The Hungarian Reformed Church of Whiting, IN joined other Whiting churches at an Ecumenical Thanksgiving Worship Service at St. Adalbert’s Slovak Catholic Church. NOVEMBER 26: The Hungarian Reformed Church of Fairport Harbor, OH joined other Fairport Harbor Congregations in giving thanks to God at Fairport Congregational Church. NOVEMBER 30: The Hungarian Reformed Church of Pitts­burgh, PA rejoiced on the First Sunday in Advent in Rev. Ilona Komjathy’s return to pulpit after an illness this Summer and Fall. Please continue to keep this Congregation and Rev. Komjáthy in your prayers. JAN 1: Calvin Year begins. The year 2009 has been declared Calvin-Year to commemorate the 500th year of John Calvin’s birth. The Calvin Synod is participating in the celebrations via an essay/ poetry contest.
