12 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Palm Sunday - Continued from page 11 CHRIST KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT. He was the only one among so many who was not carried away by false imagination but remained objective and brave. Neither the enthusiastic welcome nor the frightening future had altered His determination. THE MASTER NEVER CHANGED HIS MIND about the Father and His will. Every day of the Holy Week is an undisputable proof of His mission: “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” John 6:38. The awareness of His mission culminated in the prayer offered in the garden of Gethsemane: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:41 HE WENT AHEAD TO SET THE EXAMPLE. Our Lord did not “indoctrinate” the disciples about those noble purposes they were to serve, and afterward He did not send them to bring these ideas to victory, rather He was the “trailblazer” who had shown how to be the number one and die for the cause He had proclaimed. HE DID NOT PROMISE QUICK AND EASY SOLUTIONS and he did not treat a part of an issue differently than he would the whole issue. In our worldly life, hardly any candidate would be elected by the constituents unless he/she would promise heaven on earth. See how realistic and reassuring were His promises: Matthew 11:28-30; John 6:37; 11:25-26; 14:1-4; 16:33. HIS LOVE TOWARD THE PEOPLE was more important than people’s love toward Him. Not what He was going to receive but what He could offer was essential for Christ. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13 CHANGE OF ADDRESS Please notify the Business Manager: Wilburn A. Roby, Jr. 264 Old Plank Rd. Butler, PA 16002 Name.................. Subscription No. Old Address:..... New Address: Christ was neither a commander nor an instructor but a leader. A commander gives orders and an instructor helps the students to study; however, a leader deals with concepts, is concerned about the welfare of the people, and is existentially involved in achieving these goals. All these started to unfold on Palm Sunday as our Savior had entered Jerusalem. Rev.
