10 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Székely Gate Dedication “Enter His gates with Thanksgiving...” Psalm 100:4a On September 10, an unexpectedly sunny and warm Sunday afternoon, approximately 500 people gathered together in Hiram, Ohio to witness the dedication of the newly erected Szekely (Transsylvanian) Gate on the fairgrounds of the Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeast Ohio. The gate was hand-carved during the last 4 months by Gergely Adorjani, a Szekely native, who was brought into the U.S. by the above named organization, just to create this masterpiece. He truly put his God-given talents, love and mastership into this individually unique and one-of-akind work of art. One of the characteristics of the gate: There is no lock on it! The message: Everyone is welcome! Thanks to President Mary Jane Molnár, the leadership of the formerly known “Geauga Hungarian” organization, not to mention the dozens of generous donors, this magnificent gate symbolizes the love, commitment and joint effort of many Hungarians, who are determined to foster their heritage. Moreover, this Gate was intended by the Master Carver to bring reconciliation between nationalities whose common past is burdened by turmoil and hatred. On behalf of the Calvin Synod congregations, Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi (Fairport Harbor), Rev. Csaba Krasznai (Walton Hills), and Rev. Zoltán S Kelemen (Cleveland) attended and participated in the dedication of the Gate by giving the invocation and offering benedictions. “The Lord has brought thee here” reads the front of the Gate, while on the other side departing guests can read, “The Lord be with thee.” Hungarian Harvest Festival The Annual Harvest Fest of the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church was held on September 24, 2006.
