8 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Is Gratefulness Old-fashioned? - continued from page 7 b. Or, small favors and problem-free life offered daily what we are used to? What do you think to which group mentioned above should the manna belong?- Which one is more important according to your belief? a. The spiritual blessings; salvation, forgiveness, happiness, love, peace, the fruits of the Spirit, see Galatians 5:22. b. Or, the tangible gifts; health, prosperity, luxury, fun, comfort, etc. Do you think God is obliged to grant us both the spiritual and material gifts simultaneously, and if He is not willing to give us the tangible gifts, we should not be interested in the spiritual ones?- If you know the answers to these questions, I wish to have the liberty to ask for your opinion once more, a. is it fair that we expect others to share their wealth but we want no part of their misfortune? (Think of the victims of the natural disasters!) b. And, is it possible for anyone to gain anything and get richer without the other ones to lose something and become poorer? If you think you know the difference between when WE SHOULD or Should Not BE THANKFUL, here is God’s word: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
