ANNUAL YOUTH CONFERENCE COLUMBUS, OHIO - MAY 1-2,2004 The Ainnual Youth Conference will be held in Columbus, Ohio, at the Hungarian Reformed Church, on May 1-2,2004. This is the first announcement and we apologize for being late, but now that we have a full-time minister, things will start moving again (continued on page k) “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He had appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.” (1 Corinthian 15:3-5 NASB) The Apostle Paul prefaces his great dissertation on the resurrected Jesus Christ by recounting the purpose for His death in behalf of sinful humanity and the glorious result of His selfless sacrifice. Paul proceeds to validate his statement by mentioning the eyewitnesses who had their own personal encounter with the resurrected Christ. The various accounts dispersed throughout the New Testament only to strengthen our faith, hope, and trust in God. Those face-to-face meetings of the disciples with Jesus give credence to the truth of His resurrection. The fact that Paul took so much time and effort to dispel any doubt in the heart and mind of those early Christians points to the constant work needed to reinforce the basis of belief. Thus, as the reality of the death and resurrection of Jesus was of primary importance to the first disciples so it remains for us today. Recent episodes broadcast on the Discovery and History TV channels indicate a continuing struggle to understand the birth, mission, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth by the general population. Although the use of biblical scholars lends much needed support for gaining understanding, it seems that the producers’ primary motive in dissecting Christianity is to cast more questions and sow the seeds of doubt on the foundation of our faith. No other religion stands patiently by under so much scrutiny as Christianity. We cannot expect it to be otherwise because we have nothing to hide and nothing to fear. Truly the mystery of God’s triune nature, how He created the universe, the virgin birth, the many miracles, and the resurrection of Christ from the dead are all inscrutable functions of His power and might. Because of these, Jesus’ followers are called upon to believe that all things are possible with God. And so it remains for us, the beneficiaries of Christ’s sacrifice, to proclaim the good news of God’s love for lost humanity and His plan of salvation brought to completion in His Son. Among our many responsibilities in living according to faith, may we fulfill our task to encourage and enable one another with the promise of eternal life. So let us not fear as those who have no hope but instead let us revel in the joy of God grave that is reserved for those who keep faith and covenant in Jesus the Christ. May God grant all of us a blessed Easter. Louis M edgy isi Bishop
