6 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Formal Installation of new Calvin Synod Bishop The Rt. Rev. Koloman Karl Ludwig was formally installed as the new Bishop of the Calvin Synod in a Special Worship Service held on August 14, 2004 at his home congregation in Whiting Indiana. The sermon was offered by Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi, Bishop Emeritus. Participating in the service were Rev. Zoltán S. Sutto, General Secretary of the Calvin Synod, Rev. Ferenc Baumann, pastor of the Kalamazo MI congregation, Rev. Leslie Martin, Pastor of the South Norwalk CT congregation, Rev. Peter Toth, pastor of the Norridge IL congregation, Rev. Zsolt Takacs, MD of Indianapolis IN, Rev. László Kovács of West Lafayette IN, and Father Alfonse Skerl, pastor of Holy Trinity Hungarian Roman Catholic Church in East Chicago, IN. Joining in the celebration were Mr. Wilburn Roby, retiring Synod Treasurer and his wife Virginia from Butler PA and Janet Lawton, newly elected Synod Treasurer and her husband James from Columbus, OH. Also present were representatives of the Dayton OH and Gary IN congregations as well as numerous out-of-state guests as well as friends from neighboring congregations. The Whiting Congregation treated the celebrating guests to an excellent meal at Phil Smidt’s restaurant in Whiting, renowned in the Chicago area for it’s excellent fresh fish meals. Martin Retired Hungarian Reformed Minister Visits Cleveland Oath of Office being administered to Rt. Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig by Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi Bishop Emeritus. Rev. Dr. Szabolcs Kálmán, retired pastor of the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church, was in Cleveland in September to officiate a wedding. While here, he had an opportunity to visit with the members of his former congregation. He also made time to stop by and greet the pastors and church workers at the District Conference of Presbyters Meeting that took place at the First Hungarian Reformed Church in Walton Hills. Since Rev. Kálmán’s retirement in 1991, he and his wife, Susan, have been living in Tata, Hungary.
