István Kacsó, who was Installed as pastor of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Los Angeles. His Installation Service was held on Sunday, October 31, 2004. • On November 21, church will hold a Thanksgiving Luncheon after the worship service. • The congregation of First Hungarian Reformed Church of Los Angeles is in the planning stages for our 2004 Musical Benefit to be held on November 14. The benefit we held last year raised more than $ 1,600 for the Kezdivasarhelyi Református Iskola in Kezdivasarhely. With the proceeds, this school was able to buy three computers for their students. We are so grateful to God for giving us the opportunity to help others. We are hoping that by letting our sister churches know about our efforts, that perhaps they will join our congregation in praying for a successful 2004 Benefit or consider a contribution to this cause. Old Trov Pike CC - Dayton. OH • Our Christmas in Hungary Bazaar will be held on Friday, November 5 (5-9 PM) and Saturday, November 6 (10 AM-6 PM). It will feature lots of cabbage rolls, fresh baked pastries, and crafts. Come eat your fill and take home lots of holiday cookies. It’s worth the trip. HRC - Columbus. OH • November 6 & 7 we will be represented at the UN Festival at Veterans Memorial. • On November 15 we will hold our bazaar with cabbage rolls and chicken dinner for $8.00. Advance prepaid reservations are requested for a seating at 11:30 AM or 1:00 PM. • On November 28, the Hungarian Reformed Church of Columbus will host a Piano Performance by Alex Zsolt, a young piano player who plays well-known gospel music as well as some songs he has written. We will have a combined worship service at 10:30, followed by a potluck lunch, and then the concert at 2 PM. The charge will be $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. NJ • “Festival of the Saints of Christ the King.” On the last Sunday of the Church Year, November 21, the church will celebrate the works of God with participation in Holy Communion. The topic of the study this fall is the Heidelberg Catechism. This is an opportunity for those who studied it in preparation for Confirmation to review its teachings and look at it through more mature eyes. It is also an opportunity for those for whom it is less familiar to learn more about this catechism that has been translated into many languages and is the most influential and the most generally accepted of the several catechisms of Reformation times. We are paying particular attention to Biblical grounding of the Catechism. - It is our hope that members will also invite friends to join us, and perhaps even those in other Reformed Churches who would appreciate the opportunity to spend some time in discussion of this important work. Ilonka Karasz Exhibiton Museum of the American Hungarian Foundation The Museum of the American Hungarian Foundation presents the exhibition Enchanting Modem: Ilonka Karasz (1896-1981) from September 26, 2004 through February 6, 2005. The exhibition is on loan from the Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia where it was shown last year. It was organized by Ashley Callahan, Curator, Henry D. Green Center for the Study of the Decorative Arts, Georgia Museum of Art. The Show features over 100 examples of Karasz’s work from all parts of her career, and presents the life of an enchanting modem. Ilonka Karasz is best known for her work with The New Yorker. Eleven of her 186 original cover designs for The New Yorker will be featured in the exhibition. They trace the development of her style and present charming vignettes from her daily life - places where she lived, shopped and vacationed. She also created (Continued on page 4)
