CALVIN SYNOD NOTES The Conference Council met at the beginning of November at Scenic View, the William Penn Center in western Pennsylvania. The meetings were convened by the Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi, Bishop, with all members present. The Church and Ministry Committee met several days before. 1. About half of the churches’ unpaid assessments have been remitted, but some $6,600 is still outstanding before the year’s end. V-.................. ------ -------------------------------------------------------j 2. The pulpit has been declared “vacant” by the Synod at Lorain, OH. The pastor, the Rt. Rev. Zoltán D. Szucs will leave the church effective January 31. 3. The pulpit has been declared “vacant” by the Synod at Passaic, NJ. The pastor, the Rev. Marianna Király, will leave the church effective January 31. 4. It must be noted that ministers who may be interested in serving the churches of Calvin Synod must contact the Bishop’s office first, where their credentials will be examined, and those who are qualified will receive the church’s “profile” and may then have their dossiers submitted by the Bishop to the churches. 5. Church and Ministry, with Bishop Szucs’s departure, named the Rt. Rev. Bela Poznan as its new Chairman. He is the pastor of the Fairfield, CT congregation. The vacancy on the Committee will be filled at the Annual Meeting of the Synod. 6. The next Annual Meeting of Calvin Synod will be May 21, convening at 10:00 AM, and concluding at noon May 24th. 7. Church and Ministry will meet next on March 3 and 4, and the Conference Council on March 5-7, again at Scenic View. They will also meet May 19 and 20, at the Synod’s meeting site. 8. The Rev. Joseph Posta has accepted the post of Chaplain at the Bethlen Home, Ligonier, PA, and will commence this ministry on January 1,2002. He had served in this capacity in a part time role, while he was also Curator of the museum and archives collection there. 9. The Conference Council has assigned undesignated benevolence funds from the churches for the September 11 Disaster to the Mercy Corps Mission Fund, helping the children of the Pentagon attack victims. 10. Last minute news arrived of the death of the Rev. Julius Paal, at his home in Munhall, PA.
