CALVIN SYNOD HERALD 3 C&8ceR CDess&ge The resurrection of Jesus was an incredible event for the disciples and for all mankind. Let us look at this event through the eyes of some of the eyewitnesses. There were the guards who were terrified when they experienced the earthquake, to see the angel moving the stone from the tomb and then to see the risen Lord. They reported this event to the authorities; then they were paid to spread false testimony. There were the women of Jerusalem who came and saw the empty tomb, and the angels told them of Jesus’ resurrection. When they were leaving, they met the living Lord. The disciples that evening, were in the upper room behind locked doors when Jesus appeared to them. When Thomas arrived, they told him the news, but he did not believe. Two disciples that same evening were on the road to Emmaus. They did not recognize the risen Jesus until they arrived and He blessed the food at their meal. They immediately returned to Jerusalem to tell of their experience. On the seventh day after Easter, the eleven disciples were again together in the upper room. Jesus showed His hands to Thomas who then recognized Him and said: “My Lord and my God.” When the seven disciples went fishing, Jesus appeared to them. They were frightened, but He showed them His hands and He asked for food. They gave Him fish and honey. The disciples went to Galilee where He appeared to them. He charged them to go and proclaim the Gospel and to make disciples of all nations. Before their very eyes, He was lifted up and returned to Heaven to prepare a place for His own. For you and for me also. Hearing so many witnesses, how do we look at Jesus and His resurrection. The time is here now. Let us all rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord. Let us come to Him with faith and hope that our with full salary, and without counting against the month of vacation, as approved by the Consistory.” It was approved. Synod also rejected the cheapening of ministry by the “hire and fire” tendency in some church groups, before it infiltrates our Reformed Churches, with its challenge on, “Calling the minister. As the scriptures counsel us to fear the hireling who does not care for the sheep (John 10:1-18), we encourage our congregations to refrain from using the term ‘hired’ minister, and to recognize with due respect that the pastoral Call is from God (I. Cor. 1:28, Mt. 10:5-15, Lk. 10:1-20,1 Cor. 9-1-14, Eph. 4:11-13,1 Tim. 5:11-18).” Guidance was also offered to local churches being served in times of pupit vacancies by ministers from outside the Synod’s roll. “Supply pastors shall perform ministerial functions under the counsel and direction of the Conference Council or Administrator, in a manner consistent with the heritage of the local church and Calvin Synod.” Rev. Albert W. Kovács Easter may be blessed here and in eternity. After so many sad Good Fridays, let us be people of hope and of resurrection, and let us proclaim with conviction: He has risen and we are His people, people of resurrection! A very blessed Easter to all. Francis Vitéz V--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------N. I’ve never made a fortune and it’s probably too late now But 1 don’t worry about that much I’m happy anyhow And as I go along life's way I’m reaping better than I sow I’m drinking from my saucer ‘Cause my cup has overflowed Haven’t got a lot of riches and sometimes the going’s tough But I’ve loving ones around me and that makes me rich enough I thank God for his blessings and the mercies He’s bestowed I’m drinking from my saucer ‘cause my cup has overflowed O, Remember times when things went wrong My faith wore somewhat thin But all at once the dark clouds broke and sun peeped through again So Lord, help me not to gripe about the tough rows that I’ve hoed I’m drinking from my saucer ‘Cause my cup has overflowed If God gives me strength and courage When the way grows steep and rough I’ll not ask for other blessings I’m already blessed enough And may 1 never be too busy to help others bear their loads Then I’ll keep drinking from my saucer ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
