CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 3 -AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA TIDINGS TO ALU Words delivered from the Pulpit of our oldest church on the 107th Christmas Eve Service by the church’s Pastor Em. presently and repeatedly, our Editor. Before pronouncing the Benediction, may I be permitted to use a short, ancient illustration from the First Century of the Christian era: A Roman soldier, converting to Christianity, went to 3 early Christian churches with his Christian friend to hear long sermons from the most famous preachers of Asia Minor, each time repeating "This was the best Sermon I have ever heard!" Finally, they went to Apostle John’s church at Ephesus. The Apostle then already was 100 years old and unable to deliver long sermons. But he stood up at the end of each service and said only one sentence: "My dear Sons and Daughters! Love each other unceasingly!” “Fiacskáim! Leánykáim! Szeresséttek egymást!” Then the Roman soldier grabbed the hand of his friend and said to him with enthusiasm: “This was the best Sermon I ever heard. ” And indeed, it was! May I now re-echo to you on this pulpit on this Christmas Eve, Apostle John’s sentence with deep feeling: “Fiácskáim! Leánykáim! Szeresséttek egymást! My dear Sons and Daughters! Love each other with an unceasing love!” “Let Us Get Acquainted with Our Sister Synod! THE WESLEY SYNOD General Synod 22 of the Ü.C.C. Mission and Purpose: The Mission of the WESLEY SYNOD is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ’s liberating GOSPEL through the words of our mouth and deeds of our hands. At every level of the connection and in every local parish, the WESLEY SYNOD shall engage in carrying out the spirit of Love and Compassion as did JOHN WESLEY in preaching salvation to the oppressed poor people in England, out of which the METHODIST evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and serve the needy. “To serve the Present Age”. WESLEY SYNOD 2225 Consaul • Toledo, Ohio 43605 “The Bishop’s View” is the official organ of the Wesley Synod, which is published quarterly. The Rt. Rev. Bishop Steven R. Sanchez, Primate of Wesley Synod, elected for life (as bishops in Hungary for 400 years until just recently), is a fascinating person. He is the head and ruling bishop of the Synod, which is just about the same size as our Calvin Synod. They broke away from the National Church because the Mother-Church was becoming too liberal. Being next door to our Toledo church, he holds fraternal membership in our local church. Bishop Sanchez is also a loyal supporter, subscriber and avid reader of our Calvin Synod Herald. He and his synod truthfully keep everything “DIVINE” in an age when things Divine are disappearing day by day in this secular world around us. Richard Hooker's ancient words: “Obedience to DIVINE LAW is Liberty!” On Cuyahoga County’s Courthouse in Ohio - a long time ago - the word “divine” was erased! The removal of all things “divine” and biblical references throughout governmental places in the Nation soon followed. We were designed to be one “Nation under God” It has been twenty-two years since we first heard the words “May the Force be with you” (Star Wars). The DIVINE FORCE of the Holy Spirit is the ONLY force that will ever be able to lead us to a better world of living for all people of the Globe! July 1-6, 1999 Providence, Rl The General Synod is formed by the elected representatives of the Conferences apportionately sent in by the former governing Conferences (in the former Evangelical Reformed Church, they were called Synods). The Synod name was only maintained by the General Synod, and Calvin Synod conference of the U.C.C. The Calvin Synod representatives of the U.C.C. at present are Rev. Zoltán S. Sutto and Mr. Frank Dudás, elected by our Synod, andfif. Rev. Louis Medgyesi, ex-officio as bishop. The fate of our Synod and our congregations depends on those memy bers, whose roots S are deeply rooted, whose family ties are strong and enduring and whose reformed convictions are unshakeable! The two-fold mission of preserving our Faith and our cultural tradition demands from us doubled perseverance and multiplied loyalty in this New Land of the Free! Let us lift our hearts sky-high!
