CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 3 -AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA In the former Issue of our CALVIN SYNOD HERALD on Page 8, we saw the dramatic presentation of "Holy Week 1999" in both English and Hungarian, focusing our eyes to the HOLY TRINITY above! Here, we are presenting the Sundays coming to us soon after Holy Week, reminding us of our earthly Trinity:- FAMIL Y, NA TION and CHURCH -Reminder Sundays of 1999 MAY 9 - Mother's Day. Honoring our Mothers. MAY 23 - Pentecost, birthday of the Church. Celebrating our Christian Church MAY 30 - Memorial Sunday. Remembering the heroes of our Nation. JUNE 20 - Father's Day. Honoring our Fathers. Turn to your Holy Bible, our Heidelberg Cathecism and IInd Helvetic Confession for proper instructions for each commemoration. In case you do not have copies, you may turn to your pastor for an extra copy to lead you. Stanzas from Ady's poems "I am not a Magyar?" The ancient Orient dreamed him as I am heroic, sombre, proudly extreme, ruthless, but one who bleeds pale at a thought. The ancient Orient dreamed him bold and youthful, a noble, eternally big child; sun-spirited, thirsty, melancholy, a restless warrior; the pain - wrought tested masterpiece of a true unhappy god, the child of the sun, a Magyar. The Unchosen Because we are unloved no shambling kings and sages go around our sombre brown berceau. Jesus Christ, the Resurrected The one who says yes in faith to the resurrection of Jesus Christ cannot flee the reality of the world; but neither can this person be totally mesmerized by the world, for this person, in the midst of the old creation has recognized God's new creation... Jesus Christ, the resurrected, means that God, out of love and omnipotence, brings an end to death and calls a new creation into life, bestows new life... Jesus Christ does not want humankind to die on account of God. One is meant to behold Him and live. For that He died, for that He conquered death and hell. (Dietrich Bonhoeffer) P.S. Rev. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, our century's martyred hero from Berlin's church, was actually the uncle of Christoph von Dohnányi (German-Hungarian), the conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra. We faulted at the start. The seven fat years we have not seen and all our seasons have been lean... We sought for western Goods, we fell, grayed out in fearsome fight and now we bleed into the night. But still we give ourselves because a finer tragic plan does not exist by God or man. While others rush ahead where is a more poetic face than this chained and sleepy race? Oh! I-iow We Wonder*? The Christian Observer: Sometimes we wonder about our Heavenly Father's agenda for us, His children. Devastating storms, catastrophic flooding, seemingly never-ending snow and ice storms, plagues, etc. Additionally, we wonder about the continuing conflicts between people of differing religious beliefs. The horrible atrocities inflicted upon fellow humans. "As we search for understanding, we are not questioning His being, nor His actions, but are trying to buttress our faith in the Father of mankind. Our quest for "further light" can but enhance our belief in God and His Fatherly actions in testing us through adversity. In short, no matter what trials and tribulations we encounter - just keep the faith! Anonymous Transylvanian Bishop Kálmán Csiha's The Light Through The Bars, recounts the incredible story of six-and-a-half years in prison for the cause of Jesus. The Calvin Synod Herald most highly recommends this English-version of the 166-page long book with 30 immortal poems, written behind prison bars in the aftermath of the Debrecen World Alliance Meeting, with the motto: "BREAK THE CHAINS OF INJUSTICE!" The prices of the book, including shipping & handling, is only $14.00.
