Dr. Stephen Szabó 1998 Season Youth Conference The Youth Conference of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the Calvin Synod Conference, United Church of Christ, was held August 2-8, 1998, at the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. This summer’s Youth Conference was the single most successful enterprise done together by the two American Reformed Church bodies year after year with the help of the two gracious fraternals: the Hungarian Reformed Federation and the William Penn Association. The joint Annual Youth Conference was designed to be the first step toward a complete union of the two Church Bodies. Unfortunately, the second step was never followed! The Traditional Around Labor Day Ligonier Conference of 1998 The 52nd Annual Conference of the American Hungarian Reformed Presbyter’s Association was held at the Bethlen Home Conference Room in Ligonier, Pennsylvania on Sunday, September 6th and Monday, September 7th. The Minister’s Association had its annual meeting on September 7th and 8th. Rev. Török presided. Rt. Rev. Dr. Gustáv Bölcskei was the guest speaker from Hungary. He is the presiding bishop of our Mother-Church. He was accompanied by Bertalan Tamás and Lenke Nagy. Rev. Judith Mayer (South Norwalk, CT) also gave a lecture on Ministry. Bishop Medgyesi’s solemn Ordination will be held on October 11, Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the Fairport, Ohio church and will be followed by a Banquet at 6:00 p.m. at the La Malta Party Center, 5783 Heisley Rd. in Mentor, OH. The Bishop’s Ordination and Installation is a unique and most solemn event, with ancient Hungarian traditional liturgy in the life of the Synod’s constituting congregations. Rev. Steven Géczy’s Installation was held at the Walton Hills, OH church on September 6,1998. Bishop Medgyesi was assisted by former bishop Rev. Zoltán D. Szűcs and 22 ministers in the solemn service with Holy Communion. The new pastor was celebrated together with Dr. Stephen Szabó on his 96th birthday. It was a never-to-be-forgotten excellent and festive event in the history of the First Church.
